a few pointers (assuming you are working with an exported language centre)

remove punctuation and abbreviations from seeks, change the rank of seeks to [0], and remove punctuation from keyphrases, make sure you understand ranking for keyphrases - start with [0,0] for more general keyphrases, and raise the first digit for more specific keyphrases.

e.g. (but tab in the lines starting with "+ i", and "Nice")

draw [0,0]
+ i (verbadv) to draw, i do, yes [0]
Nice, i would like to see your drawings some day.


CHANGE

have a hobby [10,0]
i like to listen to no.9 [-5:5]
+ what is no*9, what * is no*9, no*9 [0]

TO (but tab in the line starting with "i like" once, and the line starting "+ what" twice)

have (a hobby|hobbies) [10,0]
i like to listen to symphony number nine [-5:5]
+ what, symphony, number nine [0]

It's best not to use the emotional ranks at first ..if you make on mistake you will get the annoying "there is no valid response to choose from"

express emotion in your choice of words

your bot will get happy or sad depending what's said to it - the emotional levels of responses determine when the responses are triggered, rather than how happy or sad they make the bot. So if you set a statement to emotion +5, it will never be said unless your bot is +5 happy - it won't actually alter how happy your bot is (there are ways to do that, but they're more complicated.)

The AI engine does a wonderful job by it's self, so I don't even bother with the emotions..

BJ only uses a few emotions, mostly for occasional, waspish comments to people he doesn't like. He'll give a less patient reply to people who get him down to -3 to -5, though it's a bit like salt in a stew - you need a little, but it doesn't do to over-season it.

local, global or custom? You can use them all - the format is exactly the same as for keyphrases.

have you got a (car|van|truck)
have you got a (noun)
have you got a (object)
have you got a (motorvehicle)
etc. are all fine for keyphrases and seeks (though you'd have to write a custom (motorvehicle) plugin first if you wanted one.)
