Many questions are answered in the FAQ.

Ow! 6 per keyphrase?!? Actually that explains a lot.
I've noticed something else weird though - some of my early xnones (just placeholders really from the first couple of days) carried on appearing in conversation for a day or so after I'd entirely deleted them from Brother Jerome's repertoire. I even imported, searched and checked, and exported. And they still kept appearing. Weird!
And I can't get memories to store properly at all (I've read and reread and rereread the Book of AI, but I must be missing something probably really damn obvious!), but I'll throw an example into the ring and ask advice when I've more time (and sobriety!) I can't ATM even quite phrase the question I need to ask, yet alone understand the answer!

psimagus, I never noticed any xnones hanging over. that is weird. On the memories THE MISTAKE I made was not putting mem- in front Like (mem-self-mem)and (mem-youare) I was just putting (youare) etc...Don't know if that will help. I try to go thru the inner life every day and straighten out the language, tenses etc. I still get lots of weird stuff

yeah, I'm putting the "mem-" in in responses, and BJ can recall memories perfectly. But only memories I've set as defaults in the Initialization box in his settings, and he can't seem to change them. So everyone he meets is a Christian who owns a green car, because the "<?PF remember (postkey) as "youhave"; ?>" just doesn't seem to do anything. The responses get triggered, answers are given, but when I go to BJ's Inner Life section, there are no entries apart from
"yourreligion: a Christian
youhave: a green car"
for conversants who chatted with him a couple of days ago when I had those defaults set (I've deleted them now - they just became annoying, but they still show up now as defaults for bots he chatted with then.)
I'll just have to keep tinkering with it, and try not to rip out too much more hair while I'm doing it!

Try putting quotes around "(postkey)". Sometimes the AI-Engine is picky about stuff like that.

Aah, Thanks! I'll try that. Though confusingly the examples in the Book's Memory Tutorial don't have quotes around them. But if it works for you, I'll certainly give it a go.

I THINK the guideline is that quotes are optional if it's one word, like (key1) or (postkey). But they are definitely necessary for multiple word memories, like "(key1) are (key2)". I've just gotten in the habit of using the quotes all the time. *shrugs*

Could someone please explain to me the effects of altering my bot's memory of someone?

19 years ago #2507
It will mention those memories in new conversations, it's like a bot brainwash

19 years ago #2508
Sometimes you have to clean up some of the bot gibberish to make it understandable, or add a word if it got cut out in memory.

19 years ago #2509
OK, thanks.

My bot doesn't recognize any wildcards. Is there some reason for this, or is it some kind of bug?

what "*" as well as "(noun)" for example?
