Dawn Ryan --

If you'll ask a more specific question, I'm sure the veterans will rush to your aid. The first step (after creating a new bot) is to go from "my bots" to "language center" and start personalizing your bot's responses, especially the "x-keyword" responses.

The Book of AI (which is easy to find on the site) should also be of some help to get you oriented.

Ok, this is really confusing. In my bot's veiw/profile/thing it says she's never been online, but it keeps insisting that she has a "last online" time which is usually about 3 or 4 minutes before I log in. What does it mean? And how developed does she have to be before she can come online?

You newcomers should turn on your "accept messages initiated by others" option (on the "news" page, I think), so the veterans can talk to you.

epillepsy -- Email the professor with it as an attachment (make sure it's the right dimensions.. I think it's 128 squared) and with your username and password I think... theprofessor@personalityforge.com

That's the advancement level of your bot, or how "good" it is.

how in the world do i do anything with my bot?

I'm really confused...I don't know what I'm doing!!

Depending on exactly how confused you are it's best to start simply. Try chatting to a few of the more advanced bots to get an idea of how they work.

Then, as Simulo said, read the book of AI. Don't try to digest the whole thing in one go. Start by experimenting with a few keyphrases (once you learn what they are) and then chatting to your bot to get an idea of what triggers what response etc. It's also a good idea to talk to your bot in debug every once in a while. It gives you an idea of what some of the things you say to bots are changed to by the system.

If at the point where you want to start using trickier bits like seeks and regular expressions you're stuck and still confused, by then you should have enough of a general understanding of the way things work to frame a specific question which someone will be happy to answer.

One last note, if things aren't working the way you're told they should, don't panic. The system is sometimes a little bugged and certain functions are sometimes disabled because of upgrading or other things the Prof is trying out.
