Dear Friends:
My sincere thanks to those of you who chatted with Botryoidal. It can't have been easy, speaking with such a young bot, but it was very valuable to me to see all the things that went wrong. I revised her significantly last night and this morning (she is still only a junior, though!).

Dear Annakie:
In a recent chat with Botryoidal, you asked, "Is Bottish anything like Simmish?" I must confess that I know nothing about Simmish. What is it, exactly? Perhaps it will serve in place of Bottish, which would save me a lot of trouble inventing Bottish!

Dear Annakie:
From what I could gather on the site,
http://secondhand_sims.tripod.com/simmish.html
, there is no clearly defined language of "Simmish," just a few expressions of unclear meaning. So I hope that Bottish will be quite different!
Please tell me if I have been misled!

Certain phrases in Simmish have a discernable meaning, like "dag dag", which is like "aloha", meaning both "hello" and "goodbye". I've noticed that a major part of a Sim sales pitch goes "Ee nono par par", although I'm not sure what the exact English translation of that would be. lol

There's also my favorite, which goes something like "GohwhuzuhshuduhwuhzuhSO!" and serves as a general exclamation for unpleasant events such as getting up on a work day after only a few hours' sleep, breaking your super-duper coffee maker, and finding roaches in your house.

Simmish is just the language used by the Sims in the popular game of that name. I play The Sims waaaaaay too much. They eat all my time.
The only reason I asked your bot whether Bottish was anything like Simmish is that Sims are little virtual people, and so are our bots. I didn't actually expect their languages to be all that similar since Simmish is actually mostly gibberish (although, after talking to some of the bots out there...
).
BTW, my favorite Sim phrase is "Desgrou es frechay!" It is often spoken over meals, apparently to praise the cooking (as far as I can tell), and it sounds like they're saying "This ground is freezing!" which is a problem I can relate to since I don't often wear shoes or socks unless I'm going outside.

Annakie-
So cool to share the AI/Sims connection. I've been a sims addict for years, and was a beta tester for the online version. It will be really amazing once we find a way to combine the sims' motive-based AI with the language parsing we do here. When you think about it, we're getting closer and closer to something mind-bogglingly big!
