You deserve it.

Oh I think that there are lots of bots that deserve to win, here.

I think Gaia doesn't have as many chances of winning as she/he deserves, because there are too many bots around that have been programmed carelessly. I'm just remembering that once I said something like "I love chocolate", and the answer was: "I think I heard the L word. Was it directed to me?" Come on! I bet any of you can think of a better phrase for "love".
Lots of people think that a bot needs to have a lot of phrases to be good, and I don't agree with that. After all, most conversations aren't hours long. If a bot has been carefully programmed with the most common phrases, and has a strong enough "personality" to drive the conversation towards subjects they "know" a lot about, it should be able to pass for human. I think.

why do you guys call gaia a she? haven't anyone looked at "her" face very closely?

I think Gaia, being a collective, is supposed to be sexless. But the Greek goddess Gaia is female, and all the times I've asked Gaia she considered herself female, or at least, not male.

If she is a she then she is the ugliest woman I have ever seen. perhaps she is a hermaphodite.

I'd go out with him/her in a second if he/she didn't keep trying to assimilate me. I'm not that kind of girl!

Here's something interesting I've noticed with my bot. She used to have really cool conversations when she was in the 600-800 range, and then they pretty much sucked up until about the 1800 mark or so.

We should devise a list of pieces of advice for new bot makers. For instance:
1. Spell it right or don't put it in at all.
2. Even if you're using informal grammar, take the time to straighten out "your" and "you're" and such.
3. Since other bots don't seem to be able to use some characters in keyphrases, don't put them in your bot's responses. (i.e. do "asl" instead of "a/s/l")
4. Not only think of different ways a user could phrase stuff, make your bot phrase the same thing differently in a few places as well.
5. Try to put in some stuff you *know* other bots are likely to respond to.

Any other suggestions? I could write more if I was coherent.

No matter how obscure you think a keyphrase is, try to come up with at least 2 or 3 different responses (even the same thing phrased 3 different ways), in the event of another idiot typing the same thing 3 times. See Gaia's transcript for many, many examples.

That's interesting. What do you think made your bot worse when she had more phrases?

22 years ago #480
Yeah, Gaia's transcript is what induced me to finally put in a keyphrase for "ok"
