Rejoice, bot fans! I am pleased to announce the
IRINA KHALIDAR BOT CONTEST
!!!!
The size or degree of development of your bot will not be a factor!I
It will not be in any way a Turing Test!
The number of facts your bot knows will not be a factor!
Bots will be evaluated as works of art!<0>

To enter, send your bot's downloaded language center to

Irina_Khalidar@yahoo.com

with a cover note drawing my attention to any particularly felicitous feats of programming that it may contain.
Your bot should also be available for dialogue at the Forge or elsewhere.
Deadline for submission is midnight, January 1, 2009!

I recommend that questions and comments concerning this matter should be posted on this forum, "Bot Contest".

yo! such a pity that Prof has rejected Q's custom icon, it was a killer! but, we're not giving it up just yet - I'll continue lobbying as soon as I get some time, the argument Prof gave us was not entirely convincing

I never saw it -- what was it like?

Have you a link to flicker or photobucket for it? Are you sure you can't just adjust some aspect of your image to meet his specs? Gabi's icon is actually fuzzy due in part to the lazy manipulations I did to make numbers match, and he let that through.

Irina, Bev,

here is a link to an original image I used to create an icon from:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~zoc/gnothe/index.htm

you'll find it under Appendix 5

a version that resembles the actual icon more closely is here (the CUT-UP tab):

http://www.xs4all.nl/~zoc

Prof's sole objection was that "the image [you sent] looks like more of a photograph than a
cartoon-style illustration, which is one of the requirements".

I can fully agree on image being quite realistic (even in 40x40 px format); my objection would be that there are quite a few among the custom icons already in use @ Forge, not the least the Prof's own Midnight Blue - hee, hee, hee - that are just as (photo)realistic. but, I'm not going to go into disputes about it with him - there are more important things for all of us to discuss and consider - but, rather, I'm gonna wait him out, so to speak - stick with the default Quazgaa icon, and wait 'till Prof changes his mind, by some insight, or somehow or other. I think that's the best course of action.

Ooh! Very dramatic! Both of them! Not particularly photographic looking to my eye, but perhaps that's just due to my skepticism about aliens...

16 years ago #3821
yes, I agree it's realistic looking - could be a very realistic drawing using a salamander, or frog eye as a template - rather than photographic. it's not due to any scepticism, though, just an impression.

I'd say, it's a realistic representation of an alien - they are out there, and right here, I, personally, have no doubt about it.
