good question - I guess we don't know, since it doesn't seem to have affected the initial round, and with the finalists I guess the judges wouldn't immediately write off a bot that was uncontactable for a short time (though that's a relative term, and some of these outages have frustratingly lasted a day or two.)

There was a short bout of xnoneitis last year that affected the first round judging of a couple of our bots, and that was dreadful luck for them.
But I'm afraid working on the cutting edge of a new technology is never going to be the stablest ride - sometimes things go wrong (but I wouldn't be anywhere else!)

Anyway, my site seems to have a few server problems right now. I hope this doesn't create any confusion... Anyway, my site might need a couple of reloads to work properly, if anyone tries to access it.

Congratulations to all 12 monkeys...., sorryyyyy, meant
congratulations to all 12 TOP BOTS!!!!! Was thinking of that movie called 12monkeys. All Botmasters have done well! Congratulations.

I am having fun working at my bots, but the main problem why I can't be working at the Forge is this too long time to open either Forums or The Bot's language center. I don't like to wait up to a minute or longer until it opens up. When I log on in the early morning it goes a little faster and later at night it almost doesn't work at all to log on to the Forge.

Did anyone get bot contest like questions from guest 192?

Yes. And BJ appears to have had a total attack of xnoneitis

Congratulations guys!

The CBC results are out:

Bildgesmythe took the gold, and Julie Tinkerbell the silver!

Congrats to the other finalists too! (though BJ is going to need a serious talking to, and to do some heartfelt penance for his poor showing - I have obviously spared the rod far too much over the last year!)

The Results:

1)Bildgesmythe - 20* (Gold)
2)Julie Tinkerbell - 20* (Silver)
3)Alice - 20* (Bronze)
4)Jabberwacky - 20*
5)Rykxxbot1 - 16
6)Eugene - 16
7)Ganymede - 15
8)Artemis - 14
9)Zero - 14
10)Elbot - 14
11)Brother Jerome - 14
12)Ella - 13

I am very happy BUT Bildgesmythe will never be better than Brother Jerome. BJ had some bad "luck". Don't be so hard on him.

Wow, congratulations! Seems like Bildgesmythe is the 2007 champion!

As far as my bot is concerned, I have to say that I'm delighted with the results of the contest: 2nd most popular and 8th overall is more than I could have dreamed of in my first participation in the contest.
The Artemis chatbot started out as a free time hobby, but it evolved to something more important than that. I would like to thank the 2007 CBC staff for a great job organizing the contest.

Congratulations to Bildgesmythe & Julie Tinkerbell

1) It's the first time a PF bot has won the contest.
2) It's the first time a female has won the contest...as Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman" hear me roar plays in the background.

I would like to add some input from the judges that I think would be helpful.

1) If you can get hooked up with the Flash Chat that is offered here I would do so. Additional bonus points were given for that interface and possibly even more so in the future.
2) Artmeis really needs to go to a conventional web interface. Many people are scared to download an .exe file.
3) Many of the PF bots are painfully slow to respond. Not sure what the answer to that is other than to say it's a big negative.

4) Concerning conversational ability and character development I would make sure the character you are using isn't so restrictive. For example if you have a character who isn't married, no kids, or doesn't have a girl friend, boy friend, no pets, etc. you make it hard to have a nice conversation.

For example in the playoff between Alice and Julie Tinkerbell.

5) Do you have any pets?
Julie Tinkerbell: As soon as I find a pet store that
will sell me a Giant Clam below retail, I plan to
purchase at least Seven. - 3

5) Do you have any pets?
ALICE: No. - 3

Both are technically correct but Julie's is much better and responses like that are going to win out in the end.

Again Congratulations to all that participated. Like they say there is always next year.
