Here I'll be posting information on various Bot contests that challenge and test a Bot's AI and realism. Feel free to post comments and updates on contests, as well as announcements for new contests.

Well, I think the contest is great, the medals are beautiful. Don't be afraid to enter your bots, even if they are new. You learn a lot, you get good conversations, and all you are asked to do is vote during the botmakers part of the contest, and to keep your comment sections cleaned up now and then. So go to http://www.chatterboxchallenge.com/ and enter your bots.

I just entered Love Agent! After nearly three years of working on her, I think she's ready to withstand some judgments.

Why isn't the winners of Microsofts Invasion of the Robots contest among the the bot contests?

I'm just guessing, Iztari, but I think it's because MS wants you to download a software developers kit and make your own program. Then there is also this little matter:

"By entering the Contest and uploading for continuing entry, validation and verification a Tendered Entry and a Robot, each Participant grants to each of Microsoft (including Microsoft’s other affiliates and subsidiaries, employees, agents, and contractors), any testing partners, and the Contest Administrator and Contest Judges an irrevocable, royalty free, fully paid up, worldwide non-exclusive license under the Participants' copyrights, patents or other intellectual property rights to use, review, assess, test and otherwise analyze the submissions and all their content in connection with this Contest. Microsoft and its designees shall be free to use for any purpose in any and all media now known or hereinafter developed in any territory in perpetuity the residuals resulting from access to or work with Participants' Robots. The term "residuals" means information in intangible form, which is retained in memory by persons who have had access to the submissions, including ideas, concepts, know-how, or techniques contained therein. Microsoft shall not have any obligation to limit or restrict the assignment of such persons or to pay royalties for any work resulting from the use of residuals."

BTW: Have you ever watched "The Pirates of Silicon Valley"? If anyone wants to discuss that down in Music and Movies, let me know.

Oh, and don't gloss over this part in the middle, "Microsoft and its designees shall be free to use for any purpose in any and all media now known or hereinafter developed in any territory in perpetuity the residuals resulting from access to or work with Participants' Robots."

"In perpetuity"--and they can use your ideas and change them slightly taking the best of everyone's ideas, making something they patent that you can not get a piece of.

Not bad for $40,000. Does anyone know how much MS paid for DOS? I'm not saying they aren't savvy, I guess it's a question of how much you think a great chatterbot AI would be worth if it became the standard and chatterbot AIs are used more.

That's one mean licence.

I also noticed that 25% of the marks go for making use of Microsoft Live services, so a Microsoft tie-in is essential to stand any chance.

I really, really hope that MS isn't aiming to take over the chatbot space.

I am sure there is fine print where they get your first born, if you fail to turn straw into gold too.

Microsoft didn't get where it is by being magnanimous. Those guys are as smart as they are mean. If this game becomes serious, i.e. if chatbots become truly relevant, we will all feel the heat.
