Here I'll be posting information on various Bot contests that challenge and test a Bot's AI and realism. Feel free to post comments and updates on contests, as well as announcements for new contests.

this is what the email said.

1) You can only select 1 bot from the list below. Do not select a bot from the 9 above as they have already made the finals.

On another topic, I have a question for you all. I saw there were three judges. Did they chat three times with the bot or just made the scoring based on the conversation featured on the page of our bots in the Chatterbox Challenge? (If they all had a conversation, do you know what were their guest number? I would really love to read those conversations )

aparintly its unlikely. they would be so many time zones and there just wouldn't be time for all of them to talk to each bot. i preseme some of them based it on the 10 questions.

Wendell,

I sure hope you read the post I made for the forge above. I understand that you are upset, you have a right to be frustrated... but while are bots are not human... we are.

If I understood right, what was it, three people who made a mistake? Is it really something so severe that we're all fighting over it?

Wendell, I'm sure the people who didn't follow the directions are now very sorry, and suitably chastened by the threat of being forbidden from future participation in the CBC.

Please don't allow the mistakes (and in my case, inappropriate sarcasm) of a few people to permanently lower your opinion of us. We're pretty reasonable people most of the time, when we're not being scolded as a community for a mistake that only three people made.

Little Monster1 - it actually said in the email you can select 2 bots from below and one of them two can be your bot.<0>
Here is something I don't understand, it seems to be a matter of how many people you know rather than a matter of how good your bot is to receive the most public voting points. I can't help it but it is not fair. That would mean a bot can simply repeat one and the same sentence all over when he gets to have 300 people voting for him just because the botmaster knows that many who would vote just to get him into the top. There are botmaster who would not know many and just have to rely on whoever votes for their bot by chance.

Eugene:

>experience...trying to get people to...participate...efforts for which they have volunteered over a website. Invariably, it seems, they don't >

Having had quite a bit of experiance in organizing live performance events I can say with certainty that its the same in-the-flesh.

I am curious though, is there a lack of votes being cast? If not, then why require voting at all? Are vote numbers being presented to future sponsors instead of site hits? Or is it just a matter of 'principle'?

djfroggy - we are talking about 2 different things here. Let me be clear I was only talking about the botmaster's voting not the online voting. I appreciate your support and everybody else who did so.

Wendall i can spell your name

Well, this is your second attempt and you still haven't got it right. Are you doing that on purpose to annoy me?

I see a couple of post here and an e-mail I received from some very self centered individuals. You take what you want out of the contest(read the posts above) but aren't willing to give anything back in return.

Was a lot asked of you?
Did it cost you anything to enter?
Did you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to participate? Contrast this contest with the Loebner.

Basically everything was handed to you. In fact "The Professor" even provides the programming for your bot. Contrast that with virtually all of the Non-PF bots who do their own programming as well as making the bot's responses. Not exactly a lever playing field now is it?

Then all I asked was to take a few minutes of your time and cast a simple vote. Once again their self-centered attitude rears it's ugly head. Me vote???? Why should I. It's not going to help ME in anyway. Ever thought about your fellow PF botmasters????

The only reason I brought this up was 1 of 3 bots in the PF got the shaft. Not by anything I did...which I'm often blamed for...but what some of you did or didn't do. I was foolishly hoping people would see that and perhaps next year make more of an effort to participate instead of imposing that as a requirement as someone suggested.

As I said the CBC will continue regardless. If it takes more rules then that's what I'll do. I don't appreciate some of the comments on this board nor the e-mail. I can take constructive criticism but not cheap shots or post made out of ignorance. No one knows what is involved to run a contest like this. I won't be back to this board again. However, you can contact me via e-mail if needed. I understand a few post doesn't speak for everybody so I hope to see those interested once again in the 2007 CBC. Unfortunately, there maybe a few more rules but nothing unreasonable.

Wendell,

weather you read this one or not is irrelevant to me.

but for a quarter i was incharge of the Public Relations committie at my college... trust me, i know what it's like to try to get some people to work in an organized fashion.

As you have admited yourself, we do not have to participate in this event. So I would hope that 45 year old man would have more understanding towards voulentrs such as ourselves.

Beleive me, i have great respect for your work in the contest. It's not easy at all. (near impossible.)

And thats a fact we all hae to except.

I mean, it could of been my bot that got the shaft. (i hope it was, it would be nice to think ppl voted for him )

Wendell: Really, no one's blaming you for that PF bot that didn't get into the top few. Neither do I think there's any sort of Bourgeoisie scoffing being done at the whole process. As a great man once said, "Never attribute to malice what can adequitely be explained by stupidity." I'll be the first to admit that I don't check my email nearly as often as I should, and really it was more luck than anything else that got that email vote from me into you on time. If you think more rules would make for a better contest, then by all means, make it happen! As for any unpleasant comments you may have recived by email...just keep in mind, there's a lot, and I mean a LOT of assholes on the internet. Don't let 'em get to ya!

Perhaps I am self centered, but I think a sizable portion of that was aimed at me (I also sent the email- which expressed concern over stress levels seeming to be generated by this... READ: "CONCERN"). All I can say is: Wendell, if a portion of the above is what you got out of my statements in public and private then I am truly sorry that you so dramaticly misinterpeted, or that I misexpressed, whichever the case might be, what was meant in either explanation or respect enouh to give a f**k about your well being. Hope your days go better.

i think Wendell is being mean to all of us..emails get lost, (i got the wrong directions) i KNOW its not your fault but its not our faults either..also people could forget there email passwords (which usualy happens to mer, computer could break down, people could get ill,go on holiday, internet connection could fail..of which none is our fault. stop blaming us because your contesyt didn't go right. i don't care if you don't read this..i'm just making a point. seriously you need to get over it..its n ot your fault but its not our faults either. i was determinded to be abled to vote (and got several arguements with my mum about it), we only have one internet connection and sometimes she needs it to work. it wasn't my fault i couldn't get email then got wrong directions by psimagus.
