when does judging start? (sorry if this is such a stupid obvious question)

for which competition?

CBC - next monday (20th)
WCBC - was supposed to be last January by the looks of it, but not a lot seems to have happened since then...?

this may sound sily but do you have to be online at the same time as judging?

Nope. So long as the judges can talk to your bot (and they can, whether the bot is "officially" online or not), it doesn't matter whether you're online or not.

that good. thanks ulrike. but how can you garanty that your bot will be online?

Whether the bot is on-line or not, you can talk to it through the direct chat mechanism (the place where you see flash-faces if they're enabled). If you want to try it, find a bot that's not online, click on my bots and search for that bot. You'll be able to click on "chat" and chat with it anyway.
