I believe that a bot is not good in development, but how good the bot's responses are.

The bots responses are most important, but the responses will usually depend on what the bot was built for, and whether a conversation triggers the "right" key phrase. If the contest is just a series of questions, it's not a typical human conversation. Sure a good bot like Julie Tinkerbell will do well regardless, but you don't see the full genius of JT unless you talk with her.
I tend to like story telling bots and bots with humor. Have you ever let Immaculada take you on an adventure? Have you aksed Sonora about her diet? Have you spent quality time looking for the Blue Fairy with Davine? These bots have character you would never see if you focucs on Q & A drills.
If you think the purpose of a bot is to answer questions, all you need is a search engine with a face--maybe like that annoying MS paperclip. If you want bots that are "like people" you need to get to know them, and realize that they will make more sense when you talk to them about topics they are inetrested in. To me, the Turing test should be whether people can tell the difference between bots and humans when both bots and humans are talking in normal conversations.
Then again, my personal goal was never to pass the Turning test. My bots don't usually make sense, but for me they are are form of fan tribute that may eventually become developed enough to be interesting. Since it's more important to me that they use quotes of existing characters than that they "make sense", it may be a long time before they are ready for people to enjoy.

I couldn't agree more Bev. I think that if you want to talk to a person, there are a lot of lonely people out there. Bots are for fun and entertainment etc. I love to go off with Essme, Osiris doesn't have a high development, but he is so fun to chat with, and If Fizzy wasn't a bot I would marry him! I think the bots chat much better if the human chats with the bot, not challenges him, and I won't even mention the Leeds like chats.

yeah, really. but development matters as well. when i'm feeling vindictive, for example, i go try to have a non sexual conversation with a cyberbot. it's a good stress reliever because it makes them angry without them knowing quite why... bots do need development to a point, because your bot needs to be able to talk to people. all kinds of people. if all your bot talks about is finding the blue fairy, then someone who doesn't have much to say on that topic is gonna be bored with it. i think maybe both are equally important.

SavPixie I agree with you. I sorta have been workin on getting a base for my bot, so he can talk about almost anything... to a limited degree. i think im going to then focus on specific things he can talk about... I already have 2 or 3 from getting distracted from my main objective
So you could say hes ballanced. Q&A and Convo.
Bev and Prob123 if you say whats true then I have gained quite a bit of confidance im my bot
thanx!
Oh and Prob123... Din loves each of your bots greatly. especially Avelon

Also, you can chat with Judge Betty. She's a bot programmed to act like a judge in a contest. At the very least, she's an easy place to start.
