Yeah I was painting something last night and only after I'd got as much done as I had time to paint did I notice that 2 parts of the painting are more or less mirror images of each other LOL

Mirror images are very likely conscious choices. I'm guessing you don't plan out what you're painting too much, but it's highly unlikely that symmetry came unconsciously. It may have been a bit autonomous, but that would probably have been from a history of doing symmetrical things.

Well it wasn't perfectly symmetrical, but close enough to look like it. What I mean is I didn't actually plan it, it just kinda happened. It's entirely possible that it's an ingrained habit, but I didn't actually sit there and say hey let's make this part symmetrical. Actually what I was doing more than anything was trying out different techniques with a sponge since I've never painted with one until recently. So if it happens to look good, it's total chance.

I think most of the symbolism behind famous paintings is bull. Whether it's true oor not, who cares?

Haven't seen it. The latest I've seen are the dark (and mediocre) The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, and About a Boy, which was pretty funny. No, there's no particular reason for the common theme.

I saw vanilla sky, and I thought it was a bit of a disappointment. The twist at the end was pretty stupid, cause it just sort of magically took away all of his problems(most of them, at least). I think they could've done a lot more with it.

The director mentioned a spanish movie that inspired him in the commentary. Might that be it?

Yes, I know what the name of the film was(I won't bother to correct you), I was just wondering if that was what you called the original vanilla sky.
