interesting you refer to god as a 'she'
if people didn't think that god expected something from us, religion wouldn't be so dogmatic

( BEV: personally I prefer "It"
)
The reason I say that I am Gnostic (same root as agnostic: gnosis, "to know" the "a" means "not") is not that I want for some great hereafter but moreover that I have sensed a deeper underlieing force that is sentient within the tack of circumstance ever since I can remember paying attention to the world.
That alone is the reason that I am 'religious'. As for what the specifics of that force are, I have my suspicions and thoughts that are based on watching natural cycle, studying the myriad human religions and philosophies, and trying to connect their dots. Still when it comes down to it I am really only *assuming* that, ohh for example, reality isn't just a very small very detailed bubble around me that goes no further. With that in mind (the liklihood that one is totally wrong) I try to figure out what the pattern of things is *saying to me*.
If the universe is a symptom of schtzophrenic omnipotent I am thankful it went mad- I like the privilage to witness existance (even when it is most pained and anguished) so honestly I am only curious as to "why all this is" but it really doesnt matter for whatever the reason I am grateful toward it.
Or more simply: I dont insult the divine by love based in fear of damnation or hope for eternal blisses, rather in deep thanks for the allowance of being.

>so why the hell should he expect so much out of us???
Why not?
Its game, Its rules- if I got a problem with that I can cry a river and dig a grave.
-is one thought, not to say that is the way it is, but just demonstrating potentials.

>if He does exist, he probably doesn't give a crap whether you believe in him or not. A perfect being couldn't possibly be so egotistical that you'd have to kiss his ass regularly to avoid eternal burnination>
Amen to that. Personally I can see no place in nature where something so tremendously wasteful and sadistic as an *ETERNAL* storage place or pure torture for things that failed to beg forgiveness within the first *100 years (tops)* of their presumably infinite span of being.
Not to say that natural order = the only methodology of the divine, but that afforementioned bit seems psychotic on a level that is CONTRARY to the order and harmony of nature.

More specificly: if people didnt think God wanted THE SAME THING from all of us (a la: A book of all truths, or a set of rituals that promise enlightenment-on-a-shtick)....THEN religion wouldnt be so reminicent of cattle herding on the general overall

Colonel, whould it make a difference if you designed the ants, and the molecular structure of the ant farm container. What if the God to people ratio is even greater than that of ant to man. I can't make an ant.

Antitheist: Someone who has an aversion to belief in God.
I mention this term because it's stronger than 'atheist', and often follows a person's disillusionment with some religion (usually Christianity). There was period of a year where I called myself an atheist, but it would be more accurate to say I was an antitheist.
The thing with antitheism is that it's nearly always anti- some specific religion. But this is just another way of affirming acceptance of that religion's premises (God is good and perfect, God expects a great deal of people, etc.). Most antitheists don't consider that there might be another way of looking at it.
A more flippant definition of antitheist would be 'Someone who hates the God in which he/she doesn't believe.'
Food for thought, from someone who's been there.

Is it God or religion that most people hate? A lot of "religion" is the doctrin of power hungry men, most of which were quite wicked. Religion was used to control a rabble of mostly ignorant, hungry, barbaric people.

*shrugs* Lots of people have trouble separating the two (God and religious institutions). That's the main reason I brought up antitheism.

I absolutely hate every religious group I have ever belonged to. But I love God.
