This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

Got to love newbies:
*person initating chat*: you kangROO shagger!
Me: I don't shag kangaroos! They move around too much!

Is it too much to ask for intelligent an conversation?

OK, so here's a topic for discussion. Where did everyone get their screen names or bots' names from?

Laydee is my nickname among friends (long story - basically it's a gentle mick-take of my accent as I'm from Cambridge but moved to a rural area of England where they have strong country accents), Osiris comes from my interest in mythology and Akanke is a Nigerian name meaning 'to know her is to love her'.

What about you guys?

My screen name is ancient greek (and maybe modern, i'm not sure) for servant. The context is biblical, a servant of the Lord.
Imma's (immaculada) name is actually the name of a character I created in a book I started but never finished. I got her name from a customer I had come through my line at a bookstore I used to work at. I thought the name was so unique (i, at least, had never heard it before). Immaculada means pure.

So not from the hair removal cream, then?

I lived in southern california for 13 years and saw it once on a license plate and thought it was quite clever. My reason for naming my bot basically the same thing was because at that time you didn't know who was who and who was or wasn't a bot and it confused the hell out of people

Well, Ulrike was my German name in high school, Sonora's named after the Sonoran Desert, and The Dane, well...it just seemed silly to name a bot "Hamlet"

I can vouch for having been confused by Miss Mouse's name-similarity with her bot ...

My name is just my real first name and first initial of my last name ("Cates") ... and as for Simulo, I just thought that would be a good name for a clunky retro-style robot that simulated human conversation. When I found out how many bots were already on the site, I was surprised that the name "Simulo" wasn't already taken.

Bozo was already taken by some other clown.

Pete Puma is named after a Looney Tunes character.

My name is my name LOL, I was born with it. I wanted something easy to remember on here so I just used that.
As for Cricon - like doulos! We have both written books with female spies as the main character Mina was an old name from High School, and Cricon (I needed her to have a last name) was a different version of "Critchon" from Farscape

My screen name's meaning is probably obvious. In case it isn't:

God Louise was an expression frequently used by Meg, my friend and housemate a few years ago. She said it when she was exasperated, too exasperated to use 'Geez Louise.'

As for Moreschi...well...his story is kind of sad and freaky. But I picked it in a hurry because I wanted to make a songbot (and beat Shadyman at it once I'd told him) and I'd just read about the real person Moreschi in an almanac.

(Scroll down until you see Alessandro Moreschi. There's even a recording.)
