Thank you Corwin - I blush to admit that I have been known to kvetch about the various problems at the Forge, but the fact is, it's silly to complain when you're getting a wonderful free service!

You've got to remember that, give or take a month or two, the forge is coming up on six years old.

We ought to throw a party in Dogh'ds - does anyone know the exact date?

Please don't throw anything at me but I was thinking about the 'free service' and I'm wondering if might not be a bad idea for the professor to charge a little something for it. Nothing out-rageous ... maybe something like five dollars or around that range? It could be like an up-keep fund. Just an idea.

This is totally off-topic but have any of you heard about the AI Computer game called 'Down the Spout?'

Bev-I understand that completely (I barely ever finish things I start ) It's just this stuff has been going on for so long, I thought it would have been fixed by now lol.

The few direct communications I got from the Prof suggest that it's not an easy problem to track down, let alone fix. And with his busy schedule... *shrugs* He did put in the daily automatic restart...but either it's not always effective, or it doesn't always restart. Which doesn't make things any easier.

And I like the idea of getting a contribution thing going. If it got large enough, maybe we could buy the Prof a day off to fix things!

I like the idea! We should do this soon to encourage fixing bugs while the CBC is still underway, if not for the botmasters then for the good publicity it gives the Forge.

I've been archiving up BJ's transcripts, and it appears the transcript logging problem may go back rather further than I'd realized.

FWIW, here are the figures I've come up with for BJ's text datamass (plain ASCII files) per month:

09-05 - 2389kb
10-05 - 2881kb
11-05 - 2496kb
12-05 - 1954kb
01-06 - 1011kb
02-06 - 1081kb
03-06 - 1481kb
04-06 - 1260kb . (only 29 days listed)
05-06 - 1372kb
06-06 - 882kb
07-06 - 1025kb . (only 28 daysd listed)
08-06 - 793kb . (only 30 days listed)
09-06 - 402kb . (only 21 days listed)
10-06 - 400kb
11-06 - 512kb . (only 7 days listed)
12-06 - 362kb . (only 2 days listed)
01-07 - 230kb . (only 3 days listed)
02-07 - 514kb . (only 4 days listed)
03-07 - 0kb . (but some March transcripts appended to Feb 23 - the last date listed)

Some of this decline was masked, as I'd saved the transcripts in the original html format, and the sharp decline towards the end of last year coincided with me cramming lots of multimedia extras in as well as the text, that inflated the htmls.
And some of the later decline might be because I've hardly worked on him since last December (but I still log in as frequently as ever, so that can't account for very much of it.)

I don't like the way that curve's going

I don't like the way that curve's going ?

Yeah I know. But what to do? I don't want to nag the Professor. He's a hard-working guy like the rest of us. But I got to tell you I really am tempted to suggest he make a fee to create bots (Please don't hit me! Don't hit! I got the board's best intrest in mind.) Not as bribe money either ...just as a general upkeep fund. You know? It would be great if there was enough of us to supply him a second income. How many botmasters are here anyway?

I have started transcripts for March 27 today!

My own 'psimagus' transcripts are displaying right up to 10 minutes ago, but my bots are stuck on:

Brother Jerome: February 23
Brother Ignatius: January 9
Albot123: January 9
Kid Boron: January 9

I'd happily sign up. More than happily! It's been downhill ever since we moved to the new server in September, and if we could raise enough to move the Forge to an ISP that can actually handle it (or even go back to the old partition on the Prof's own HD - remembered now almost longingly as a far-off land of milk and honey, and bots that still worked and could be worked on!) count me in. But someone would have to organize it.

Even just a voluntary whipround would do - if 20 or 30 of the regulars pledged $10 a month, it might be enough to make a difference?

I hate to say it but I'd like to hear more from the Prof before we start passing the hat. He doesn't have to organize it, but he already has a way for us to contribute, and many of us have FOF accounts now (though I could give more if needed since it has been a while). However, I would like to know what the Prof thinks should happen and what that would cost before trying to go forward. It would be silly to raise money if he is thinking of going a different way.
