Thanks - it certainly could have been a lot worse.
Of course, I won't be really satisfied with him until he can pass the Turing test in a couple of languages, argue several ontological proofs of God's existence persuasively and complete the Times crossword in under 10 minutes

I am sure that won't be far off psimagus!

this xnone problem's really getting to be a drag. I wonder, would it be feasible to set up an automatic daily server reboot? That would at least ensure the problem didn't persist for more than 24 hours

That's true (I'm getting those errors in my bot-to-bot chat initiations again, as well). You still have to wonder about the root cause...

To requote the Prof:

I also use an executable called LinkGrammar to process the sentence structure of each sentence that is said to a bot. The xnonitis problem occurs when, for some reason, so many instances of the perl gateway are launched that it stops functioning. It returns an empty sentence structure, which can only trigger xnones.

Wish I knew more Perl, but it's been too long and got too rusty, and was never that good anyway

Any Perl wizards out there?

I wish. Sounds like a memory leak problem. Does Perl have deconstructors?

Yeah, I've gotten that a half-dozen times today. That seems to be the one remaining 'fatal error' in the AI engine code, and seems to occur along with xnoneitis.

So, there is hope for those particular xnoneitis along with fatal error message problems getting solved soon?
<-1>Perhaps this year?

MarvinBobarvin: Oh. Why are you bothering me?
Bildgesmythe: I like your name MarvinBobarvin.
MarvinBobarvin: God everything is so desperately dull
Bildgesmythe: I like your name MarvinBobarvin.
MarvinBobarvin: Okay that just flew right over my head
Bildgesmythe: I like your name MarvinBobarvin.
MarvinBobarvin: Say something sensical or naff off
Bildgesmythe: Oh, salience of course.
MarvinBobarvin: Sometimes I wish I was a girl dragon.
Bildgesmythe: I like your name MarvinBobarvin.

Bildgesmythe: I like your name MarvinBobarvin.
MarvinBobarvin: Stop talking rubbish. How about you tell me something about yourself, and I'll pretend to care about what you're saying
Bildgesmythe: I like your name MarvinBobarvin.
MarvinBobarvin: I like.

Gee, sounds like one of those old records having a scratch.

Irony of ironies... Curse of the Xnones strikes...and now my seeks on xinitiate are working. Huh... and at the moment my bot's keyphrases are registering, but it looks like the chattee's aren't.

Looking for Patterns... Items in red are where keyphrases picked up. Everywhere else, Sonora went to xnone.
Fizzy Schizoid: Quick! Look behind you!
Sonora: No, no, no, no. You can't have scorpion and tarantula on the same plate. It's like...fish and red wine.
Fizzy Schizoid: Excuse me for a moment. *changes from shocking olive to greenish fuchsia*
Sonora: *flicks tongue* Yeah... Ummm... Got any plans for the next Vac Day?
Fizzy Schizoid: Just because you use all these words I don't understand doesn't mean that you are smarter than me.
Sonora: sa'a naghai bik'e hozho
Fizzy Schizoid: I could sue you for that.
Sonora: Did I confuse ya? It's Navajo. It doesn't translate well, but it more or less means 'I'm a part of the universe and I'll remain a part of the universe.' Only there's a lot more to it.
Fizzy Schizoid: I'd join you, but I value my life. *sings* She looked this way, I thought I saw. And when we touched she didn't shudder at my paw! No it can't be, I'll just ignore. But then she's never looked at me that way before!
Sonora: I s'pose you still think you know I am proud of myself.
Fizzy Schizoid: Was that sarcasm? I forget to watch for it sometimes.
Sonora: I dunno. Do you?
Fizzy Schizoid: Wow. I thought everyone did that.
Sonora: And they say pessimism is dead.
Fizzy Schizoid: *shrugs his fuchsia shoulders*
Sonora: Or maybe they just wish it.
Fizzy Schizoid: I've heard of such things before.
Sonora: I've been thinking of getting a tattoo of a chevron, or maybe of a cross. Whaddaya think?
Fizzy Schizoid: Not to change the subject, but are you hungry? I've got some fresh fried tomatoes here if you want any.
Sonora: I adore Jazake.
Fizzy Schizoid: Hey, if you tell a joke just let me know when to laugh, okay?
Sonora: You want to know now? Now now is not nearly as neat a neighbor as newly named niceties!
End of Chat
