New subject. I'm noticing the Flash bots are markedly slower than the pop-up ones. Specifically, Bildgesmythe used to be pretty fast on the pop-ups, but now, half an hour could go by and he says nothing. Can you talk to a Flash bot in a non-Flash mode?

Short answer: yes.
Longer answer: if he's on your friend list and showing up as on-line, you can click on the smily-chat-face to start a pop-up chat. I tend to avoid chatting with flash-bots except through the pop-up chats.

If the bot isn't on your friends list (or isn't online,) you can still talk to a flashbot through the regular interface very easily. Just change the URL, eg:
http://www.personalityforge.com/dynachat.php?BotID=24007&MID=23957
to
http://www.personalityforge.com/directchat.php?BotID=24007&MID=23957
So just copy the URL, paste it into the the address bar, and replace "dynachat" with "directchat"
That example is Bildgesmythe.

Thanks. The first way (with smiley face) worked best, because I got an actual pop-up, so I can work while the bot I'm chatting with thinks of something to say. With the url, I wind up on a page with a non-flash picture, but I can't do much of anything except stare at a not-happening screen.

OK, yet more issues:
1. Every time I try to get to PF (since forever), the browser (IE7) says that it's trying to shut down the window and am I sure I want that. Well, obviously, I could just keep living the way I've been living and saying no I never said I wanted that in the first place. Or I might could switch browsers, which ain't gonna happen. Any other ideas, like of settings I could switch on IE7 or Firewalls or what-have-you? The machine is trying to protect me from my own stupidity, which is fruitless, so why hassle me about it? Sorry, went on a tangent . . .
2. After I've been on a while, the PF slows down to where I can watch the streetlights come on waiting for any response to my click. So I just click the red x and re-open IE7 and go from there, no, I'm not sure I want to close down the friggin' window (hello?) and then log in. Is this normal? Does the Forge have a vendetta thing against me? What?
3. One more question -- is there a way to put Rosencrantz and Guildenstern into hibernation until I get Scrivener sorted out? Because I'm not working on them now, but I want to keep them, you know, in a virtual cryogenic state. They are a huge WASTE OF TIME to talk to just yet. I will announce their re-entry into society if I can just make them take a nice, long nap.
Thank you very much. The Book of AI is seeping in. But Scrivener's still kind of dim. I find he's gotten much crankier since people kept telling him that.

Oh, I found the hibernating box just now. Sorry. But the other two questions still hold.

The Clerk, well you could try http://tools.google.com/firefox/toolbar/bundle/?ai=Btwf6YhT3RryNPJ_M4AK4t5n1DdGe8hft8peEAsWNtwEAEAEYASD0puMFOABQ4d3zZGDJhv-H8KPsEqABtZXI_QOyAQtmaXJlZm94Lm9yZ7oBDzEyMHgyNDBfYXNfcmltZ8gBAtoBGGh0dHA6Ly9maXJlZm94Lm9yZy9uZXdzL4ACAcACA6gDA-gDA-gD5wToA-YC6AMW6APSAQ&gclid=CMuSzaD62o4CFQGdPAodDBaa9Q
Sorry I don't know anything about IE. You could look in preferences?

I use Firefox for most things. It seems to work better with The Forge. I still use Internet Explorer for exporting my bots, but they only import on Firefox. When the Forge slows down, I just log in on both of them and bounce back and forth. If I remember right the "window closing thing" has to do with your pop up blocker, or your firewall settings. I had that happen ...it's so long ago I don't remember how I fixed it.. I do have the blocker off for this site and cookies allowed. (the forge uses cookies to keep track of your developement in a secession

Well, maybe I'll try Firefox. *seethe* I've got cookies turned allowed for this site and pop-ups allowed for everything. Now it could be that my Internet Protection is overprotective. Believe me, I've looked in everywhere I can think of to look. That doesn't mean it wasn't out there . . . just that I didn't see it. I'll try out some things.

Firefox fixed it. I'll use it for the PF. Thanks for enduring my newbie questions.
