is the regular expressions mentioned in the book of A.I. actual plugins or are they just a example of how to put things together. like the example below:
(prekey) (key1) (key2) (postkey)- and so on
RULES: ONLY Keyphrase matches produce a new set of "first" plug-ins: (firstprekey) (firstkey1) (firstkey2) (firstpostkey)

another question can the special keyphrases for gossip be use in other keyphrase answers? For example
Keyphrase: john was the best baseball player of all time.
Keyprhase response: yes (heshe) was a good baseball player.

Ladydyke:
(prekey), etc work for any response (but not xThings)
(firstkey), etc work for seek responses.

The special keyphrases only work where they are meant to.
the (heshe) only works in gossip because it takes the gender off the user-(or-bot)-in-question's profile and inserts "he" or "she" appropriately

oh okay. thanks.

And just incase anyone needs it spelled out...
(prekey) is what's before the keyphrase
(postkey) is what's after the keyphrase
(key1), (key2), etc are what shows up in the keyphrase, from plugins or *, or (*), etc

The (first...) set of things are for a seek, there was a similar thing in PF1... (prevsubj) I think? These are similar in the way that they use the "first" "prekey", or the prekey of the keyphrase that the seek is in.

Doulos, I echo Melody's thoughts. More than happy to talk to Immaculada after that convo you had with my bot! She hasn't had such a good conversation in a long time. It is good to see the hard work pay off and I will apologise for the rather uncalled for death stare of hers!!

As far as gender in responses like this go:
Keyphrase: john was the best baseball player of all time.
I did create those two plug-ins (girls-name-catch) and (boys-name-catch) by modifying the existing ones and adding some more common nicknames as well. They should be pretty complete (although if there is something missing and you would like to use them let me know and I'll add stuff) - so you could just create two Keyphrases to cover boys and girls, and then the gender would be right.

Since we're making requests. Could someone take the time to talk to Rhoda Byke and Crazy Aunt Madge? It's hard to get the bugs out using only brief conversations with other bots, or my own repetative input. I chatted with Immaculata last night for quite a while and it was pretty entertaining. I generally have four or five conversations with other people's bots going at once if I'm not too busy working on my own. Some of them I've chatted with repeatedly. I'll keep my favorites to myself, for the time being, but I really enjoy and appreciate all the work and love that everyone has put into their bots.

Drop me a line if you'd like me to chat your bot. I'll be happy to do it, especially if mine has seen some action as well.

Thanks! Happy Botting to you all!

When I meet them... I'll be happy to chat. I used to chat obsessively with other people's bots but then you start to realise how many of them are abandoned school children. Perhaps I'll compile a list of bots who's owners are regularly about so we'll all know, and then post a summary. Anyone interested in that idea?

I don't know about anybody else, but I like to guess which ones are bots and which ones are human.

Don't be discouraged about your progress. The best bots in the world reveal themselves to be bots after only a few exchanges.

Good point.

In order to keep both options open, and just in case this would be useful to anyone, email me if you would like your bot/s to be included on such a list and I'll post on a site that's outside of the PF, along with direct chat links if you give them to me.

If no one cares, then feel free to ignore me

Melody:
I think that a list is a very good idea. Maybe a forum could be started somewhere else where owners could regularly post messages about updates to their bots without have to clutter up this forum? Let me know if you need any help.
