actually turing it was sony AIBO's that were reprogrammed to play the game in order to see if robots could demonstrate pack behaviour.

Nah, this was another thing. Shadyman was right, this was lego robots with neural networks in them. However, the Aibo thing also sounds cool - did it work?

actually it did. They began to show immergent pack behaviour. (yes I know that I can't spell worth a sh*t)

Here is one of the squares, I don't know if it's square one: [].
Lego Mindstorm is a pretty clever idea from Lego, where you create lego robots along with motors and sensors, and then you program it do do certain things based on inputs from it's sensors. The programing is all done via computer.
Then there are the robotic pets, like Aibo, which Ladydyke can tell you far more about.
Fianlly, any sort of robot can be "programed" with a neural network, which is a very clever thing that is supposed to sort of resemble the brain. It's just a bunch of "wires" connecting inputs and outputs. These networks can either "learn" by example, or can also be evolved to achieve certain goals.
I'm not sure if that was square one, but if not, go vaguely north by south-east from here and you'll find it.

Money is the root of all evil. Therefore, evil is money squared. Coins are ok, but throw out your bills. They're a little too squared in the corners.
