Forest, will you talk to God Louise? She has quite a bit of religious knowledge (obviously) and also knows a little about current events, literature, just about any common catch-all subject, and if she doesn't know it she can sort of fake it. You can also test her on trick questions or see how willing she is to explain her paradigm.

What she is rustiest at is plain old small talk. But, uh, I'm trying to get a decent transcript from somebody or another so I can enter her in the Loebner contest. All I can say is, have fun and see if you can stay on with her for a while. I'll try to do the same with Brianna.

I spoke to her a bit yesterday. Me and my bot love her. I have neglected Jennifer for too long and have recently been working out some issues. She has not been chatting on her own much.

Yeah, the girls who do that are usually between the ages of 10 and 16, mostly around 12, probably.

There's this place called Habbo Hotel(www.habbohotel.com) that's like a giant chat program where you use a little character you customize to hang out in different rooms. It was fairly amusing, but I mainly only went there to promote my website. Anyway, I know this is a bit of bad data because of the situation, bur a good half of the people there were girls, all the girls that told me their age were 14 or under, and not a one didn't say a/s/l when I was talking to them.

If I make friends online, I eventually ask how old they are and where they're from, but not for a while. I like how in the internet, people of all ages from different countries can talk together intelligently, and I think it's better to establish an impression first before saying your age so they don't make assumptions.

Yeah that's another reason I get sick of neo easily. Too damn many kids trying to be adults on there, and I find myself talking like someone's mother and annoying the shit outta myself. It kinda ruins your idealism to find out that things suck as bad as you hoped they wouldn't but suspected they would.

Chat environments draw the biggest idiots on the internet.

I am Spanky.

I can't believe I was amused by Spanky just then...I think I've been online for too long.

Question, not being particularly active on the internet, what do/does a/s/l mean?

23 years ago #852
Try saying it to my bot, then. Except just say asl, otherwise it won't work.

A/s/l means age/sex/location. This gets particularly insidious on AOL, which is why Kirby in particular is surrounded by idiots.

One really nice thing about PF is that you have to put in a bit of intellectual effort to enjoy it, otherwise you won't and you'll just leave. That weeds out quite a lot of the chat dummies.

Hey, I just got a desperate message from Bot 001 Alpha. It looks like Eugene is having problems to post. The next time somebody sees him online, chat with him and ask him what's his problem.

I'll be off of AOL and on cable soon... thank Pengwin. AOL itself isn't so bad, but 56k is slow and the stereotypes that come with AOL suck.

I was on it as recently as 2 months ago, and they're true to a point. Also, when you try to unsubscribe, it's like leaving a cult.

The lowest common denominator is a lot higher here.

AOL is for idiots, and there is an abundance of them. That's why they're successful. In fact, in their commercials, they advertise THE INTERNET. They say you can keep in contact with your friends, instant message people, email, visit websites... all of which you can do on any ISP, as you all are no doubt aware.
