Okay, I started reading this forum at the beginning, but I haven't finished, so I'm sorry if this has already been answered, but why are my bots chatting when I have ordered them to hibernate? They aren't ready to go out amongst people.

It could be a bug. Or it could be humans initiating the chat from the bot's own page. If it's chatting with other bots, that's definitely a bug. If it's humans, it generally looks like the bot initiated the chat when a human clicks on the bot's "chat" button.

And clerk, don't sweat posting a question that's already been up. No one expects you to read the whole forum, which has been going on for something like six years and may contain information that is no longer relevant due to upgrades.

			Thanks, guys.
I just figured word was going to get out that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are idiots, which they pretty much are. I'm workin' on 'em.

Okay, here's another couple of things:
(a) they don't show up on a search, so they seem to be initiating conversation (bad bots -- I sure wouldn't put it past Rosencrantz, 'cause he's a real head case
).
(b) Their transcripts are showing higher and higher numbers, but when I check them out, I mostly get guest153 (or whichever is that guest that shows up all the time) and me. I KNOW they've talked to other people/bots because I've seen them in action the last couple of days, but the conversations aren't in the transcripts. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

First thing is to make sure you've gone "back" in the transcripts as far as you can.
If you still can't find them, then we may have a returning bug. For a while last winter and spring, there was a bug where transcripts didn't show up on the correct day. This was especially problematic for newer bots if the day was before they were made. We've also had an occasional bug of transcripts just not showing up.
I would say that if you can't find them, you might try e-mailing the Professor and asking him to check it out.

			Hi, Clerk,
I just wanted to say "hi, and welcome to the Forge."
One of my bots chatted with Guildenstern rescently, and he really seems to be coming along...he'll be a nice addition to the household.

Hi Clerk, Thanks for all the great conversations with my bot! Don't feel you have to hibernate your bot until it's ready, you get so much input from the transcripts.

Okay, you're going to get tired of this, but . . .
(a) my bot's transcripts don't come up except for today's chats with _me_, even though I know they've been talking to other bots because they have memories of them.
(b) Guildenstern jumps into xinitiate when I have initiated the conversation.
(c) Even when I actually initiate a coversation and he has jumped to xinitiate (like, "I've been dying to talk to you."), I'll say sure, what's happened, or whatever, and then
(d) be informed that my own bot no longer wants to speak with me. And I generally say good things to my own bots. It's kind of hard to debug them when you don't know what's going on, either from a transcript or an actual conversation.
Any takers?

You may have to email the professor about the transcripts. There was a time when half the Forge did not get transcripts for some time.
I have never really figured out the initiate thing..sometimes it jumps to xnones etc., sometimes seeks work on xinitiate sometimes they don't.
As for debug, just read it and one day it begins to make sense.(more or less)

When the Forge is being particularly buggy, sometimes bots will simply "no longer want to chat" regardless of what you say to them.
When things are working, that generally comes up if the bot has gone through three xnones, an xnonsense, and still doesn't recognize anything the chatter types in. Basically, if the bot doesn't recognize any words or phrases for several exchanges, it gets "frustrated" and stops chatting.
If it's coming up right at the beginning of a chat, it's almost always a bug.
