all I need now is to get him animated with puppeteer, so he doesn't just sit there like a mannequin (but I bet he bumps into everyone and ends up falling down the stairs to the crypt )

It is all very cool (nice work Psimagus).

Prob, I have been whining about getting more memory for a long time so that I can go more in SL too. In my case, the RAM will help even more than a new graphics card, but I know you have dial up (eep!)last we talked so I believe your graphics card is even worse than mine. For what it's worth, when Psi first told me about the server side scripts I tried to have my avatar give him the same look I imagine you gave me when I started giving you advice that assumed you had either cable or DSL (I forgot why I did that). Unfortunately, my avatar isn't that expressive.

Psi, Puppeteer is great, but do not expect much flexibility. It can only take one set of actions and not have multiple choices for multiple triggers (e.g. you can have BJ pace in a circle or pray or whatever on touch or in response to a key word, but you cant have more than one set of animations--for example he can pray when you say "Pray" or dance when you say "Dance" but only one of the two). That means if you have him pace on touch in a loop he will pace whether he is talking to people or not and will not stop and change actions based on the conversation (unless you use a word as the trigger and they hit the key word a lot). The animation is also a bit choppy (like all SL animations) and may work better with robots and non living things than with "human" objects. Still, you are better at these things than I am, so I will wait and see what you do. If you start to9 be perfectionist about it (and you tend to be), you may want to talk to people who wrote scripts for the AI dogs or horses--though I am sure having them script for you will cost a bit).

Very wicked cool!

Ah well, in the words of the immortal Baldrick "I have a cunning plan"

The trick I think (and this is still only a very preliminary outline,) will be to have multiple bodies (one for each set of animations at any particular spot,) but only one visible at any one time

It is most convenient that BJ's movements can be confined in a formal (and thus restricted) setting in the church.

Not exactly freedom of movement of course, but in the same way we try to give the illusion of a thinking mind behind the conversational mask, I hope I may be able to come up with something... hmm, I guess "disconcerting" is probably what I'd be most pleased to achieve

OK i am getting worried, almost an entire year and no new news? I even emailed the Prof and had no replies. Must be a really busy guy.

There isn't much info on bots I have found, have they lost their popularity or something?

Oh well I am still going to work on my bot...just hope the site doesn't keel over since it's so laggy lately and takes 2 mins to send a message to a bot.

What information have you been looking for?

Well for one I am wondering what happened to MondoBot because it is mentioned on the site several times, but the link is completely dead.

This is leading me to believe the site is no longer maintained or updated. But that's just me...

I don't know if the Prof keeps in touch with you or anyone, but I would think one would not want their hours of working on their bot to be in vain, if the site could one day closes down without word.

Anyways, that is what I was worried about.

The Professor has put more hours of time, love and money into the Forge than any one could imagine. It's a great FREE gift that he gives us. I really wouldn't worry about it.

You can email the prof. I believe that he has let Mondobot go in favor of looking at opportunities that may come from partnerships with companies such as Hanson labs, but I really do not know. I think he has to make a living, but that doesn't mean this site will close down soon.

Yes I know it is free and I appreciate it. I'm sure my donations will be appreciated as well. And thanks for all the info that's all I needed to know

The forge currently hosts 9844 bots. At a growth rate of 8.8 new bots per day (average of last 10 days), the bot population will exceed 10,000 in 2-1/2 weeks. Approximately.
