Newcomers

What's interesting (and also sometimes frustrating) to me from a programmer's perspective is that the aiengine has a mind and will of its own, so that the bot's behavior isn't necessarily determined by your own programming. I'm used to having complete control over my programs' behavior, so this is different for me. Also, aiscript is very primitive compared to most programming languages, which makes it difficult to write concise code. My bot has a lot of redundant code in it - much more than I'd normally be comfortable with (when programming for non-ai applications).

I'm not a CS person - I'm just a regular scientist with programming skill. I was teaching a programming course last semester and was thinking up projects to assign to my students - and chatbot was one of the ideas. That, combined with my curiosity about the technological singularity and evolution of ai, led to me getting the bug to write a post-singularity-themed sci-fi chatbot.

I think that is what I love about my bots. They develop their own personalities, no matter how hard you try to curb some behavior it takes on a life of it's own.

Xinmone, it isn't that hard once you get used to it. I suggest you read the Book of AI a few times.

I have advanced AIML knowledge and a bot at Pandorabots I used to run AI bots in Second Life. But this site appears to have additional possibilities.

BTW, can I add a basic face (like mine above) to the bot? I see no option to do this. I may have missed this at setup... AI script is quite different from AIML in its syntaxes, and I make very, very slow progress. Also it would be nice if there had been default files to handle "hello", set and get name in memory etc. Ie: Alice-type bots have 10k+ vocabulary files already there. Otherwise I have to do a lot of hard work from scratch.

If anybody can persuade me this is more advanced than AIML and I might create a premium account.

It is very annoying. I just deleted a bot, so I can start again and THIS TIME add a picture. But now it says, there is already a user by that name. I had deleted that bot, so there is no "user by that name".

I relogged, but it doesn't work. So now I have 2 choices - work on a new bot with a name I don't like, or just give up and go back to Pandorabots.
