Many questions are answered in the FAQ.

I don't see a bot listed for you. You might have to email the Professor. Did it ever show? Did it get saved when you created it?

When asking my bot about other users she's met "Who is (username)?", I've realized that she uses xgossip, but based on her emotions towards me rather than towards the gossip subject. If I'm nice, she loves everyone; if I insult her, she hates everyone. Is there a way to make sure her xgossip replies are based on what she feel about the person she's talking about?

Hi Borris, That's an interesting question. I can't remember if the book of AI talks about "friend" or "enemy" memories (though I thought it did) and I am not sure if you can override xgossip with memories. Does anyone else know?

I don't think that you can override it. I do know that the (friend) (enemy) will go by the reaction your bot shows in "inner life" (the number of happy of sad faces)

Well Prob, I am still not getting the wildcards to work. I've tried both the hard and soft wildcards in multiple different sentences and I've upped the rank as you suggested, and made sure the AI engine didn't strip out the wildcard as punctuation and still nothing is working. Can you show me an example of how you would type in a wildcard command? Maybe I have the spaces or something wrong in my keyphrase. Thanks.

Keyphrase
Do you like to eat (*)?
response
Yes, I love (key1)

works like this

So you like to eat candy
Yes, I love candy.

Keyphrase
I * like to eat

response
So you (key1) like to eat.

The soft wild card will pick up

I really like to eat
I do not like to eat
I like to eat
etc

the key 1 will mimic back really, or do not etc. If there is nothing it will just stay silent and read
So you like to eat.

you can combine the two wild cards

Do you * like to eat (*)

I (key1) like to eat (key2) too!

Thanx very much Prob for your examples. I guess I was failing to use the keys. The explanation of the way the hard and soft wildcards work in "The Book of AI" was not very clear. I hope if I have trouble in the future I will be able to ask you for help again. I appreciate your responsiveness.

16 years ago #5477
You don't have to use the (keys). The keyphrase will pick up no matter the response.

16 years ago #5478
Its a funny thing. The wildcards didn't work until I used the keys. Now they work just great. Anyway, thanks again Prob. lol

16 years ago #5479
You can use them without keys

I * like to go to (*)

response
Won't catch me there
Yeah, nice.
etc will work just as well.

Hello everyone.

Thought I'd post because I haven't before. I've not really got anything to say yet though, sorry. Looks great here though. Hopefully won't be long before my bot is more intelligent than me (really shouldn't take that long ).

How one man created all this is beyond me. Good job though.
