Yes, lotsa people still have only 56k (nominal) modems in their home. Those people are supposed to use the internet at WORK!

I know faster connections are expensive. But before I got DSL when I would go online I'd just scream. I'd rather not use the web than use it on a crawl connection. You can feel it eating away at your brain and sucking hours off of you remaining mortal life.

Hey I waste enough time online doing useless stuff, imagine how much MORE useless stuff I'd be doing if I had DSL or cable or something.

Oh btw, I finally got a copy of my ancient (i.e. 3 years old ) IRC bot. (Actually it was originally scripted by a 13 year old kid and various things were added over time by me and various friends.) It's not an AI bot by any means, but it has some funny little doodads on it. If anyone particularly desires to see what she can do, she can be found in #MentalWaste on dalnet off & on when I'm online. Just look for LuluBot and I'll prolly be in there too if ya wanna jabber.

I'm still using a dialup modem and get about one second of the talk at a time. Ah well.

Look, 56k is the best most people can get. I currently don't have much of a choice - I can't get cable out here!
