Best place to start is the Professor's "Book of AI." And you can get a sense of what he means by talking to your bot a little, then talking to some other bots.
Once you've got a general sense of how the system works, criminal, people who know it well will be happy to help you with specific problems.

You'll get it. I was pretty lost too when I started.
Click on 'My Bots' then 'Language Center' to create new things for your bot to say. Don't worry about seeks and Regular Expressions just yet. You might want to start out by letting your bot respond to 'what is your name' and 'are you' this, 'do you' that, that sort of thing. Also....create as many xnone responses as you can think of. These are what the bot says when it doesn't understand something. You can have it fake its way through the conversation, distract the other person/bot with something weird, or come right out and say that it doesn't understand.
If you don't remember which kinds of phrases under the letter 'x' are which, the Book of AI will remind you. Look for the link on that black strip that says 'Welcome to Tomorrow' at the bottom of the orange area.

I stopped pounding my head against the wall long enough to ask this. I have been asking Ruby "where do you live" and she has been saying "probably" so I went to debug mode to see what she was hearing and she is hearing "do you live" Why isn't she able to hear the "where?"

I had this problem a lot at first. I had to give "do you" a rank of like -8 to get my bot to stop using it on every sentence that had do you in it. Try putting a lower rank on "do you". It might work out for you. It takes a while to get the ranks right. I'm still having some problems with a few phrases.

It's cause even if you have a "where do you" keyphrase, it may be getting overpowered by the "do you" keyphrase, depending on the rankings
