Aischa has "huh" as a key phrase, so she can recognise when someone deosn't understand her and deal with their confusion, but she never seems to pick up on it. what's the likely reason for this?

it's probably getting spell-checked away by the AI Engine. Try adding a AIScript raw tag "<?PF raw; ?>" (without the quotes,) and that will force it to use the word exactly as entered. Also handy for personal names.

Question: how do you get the diamond/diagonal brackets to show up? They always disappear for me.

Sorry, you need magic fingers. I just type them in and twitch my nose...
But seriously, I don't know. I'm using MIE 6 running under WinXP, and it just sorta works without me having had to give it any thought...

Hmm, I think you probably want to tweak your codepage settings. If you're running XP, that would be in Control Panel>Regional and Language Options. Hmm, and ...
what the Hell?!? when I check mine it seems to have defaulted to Croatian!?!
I've reset it to United Kingdom, so here's the test:

If there's no pointy brackets there, you'd better set your code page to Croatian...

OK. I've figured it out. The PF will allow a very few ASCII combinations that include pointy brackets through its filters, ONLY if they fits a predetermined template. Random gubbins encased in pointy brackets get swallowed whole (burp!) So do tags that aren't typographically perfect (so it's safest to cut&paste).
One of the combinations that works is "<?PF raw; ?>", and I imagine that all other AIScript forms as illustrated in the Book of AI would display properly, since the Prof will presumably have allowed for them.
But then again you were getting that weird colour problem, and that definitely wasn't a server-side problem. And my explanation only accounts for what my browser's doing, not yours.
Hmm. I think on balance maybe "magic fingers" is the best explanation I can give. But then as Arthur C. Clarke observed, "any sufficiently advanced science will appear to be indistinguishable from magic."

Where do I put the raw tag? Does it go in the AIScript box or do I write it next to the keyphrase?

Either. I tend to put it after the keyphrase, but then the AI Engine seems to have move it up to the AIScript box when I go to reedit, and does away with all the pointy brackets and question marks. You could probaby just type "raw" into the AIScript box, but I haven't tried that. I assume the Prof has been making improvements to the interface since that section of the Book of AI was written.
