Newcomers

I've noticed recently with "Irina Khalidar" that an obnoxious guest triggers a hangup, but he doesn't disappear.

Not sure about popup chatting, but HANGUP doesn't seem to work in direct chats. (unless maybe it works in the flash interface; haven't managed to trigger it there, and my bots are non-flash)

Irina: haha, that's like storming out in rage only to find that you've stormed back into the same room. That reminds me of Merv's castle in the Matrix.

Ulrike: Thanks for the confirmation, I'm reading the older posts in the forums and I'm sensing that the Forge has changed dramatically since then. I read to the 2000th post on the Personality forum, whoo. Only 2000 left to go. Well, the most of the helpful information was mostly before 500, after that is mostly conversations. Some were entertaining.

Now why would anyone in their right minds do that? It's because I could, and I also wanted to get the overall feel of the site. It also helps me informally get to know the varsities a bit, their personalites, their interests.

I also noticed the average person's attention span for this site is five years, well I can assure you that I won't ever get bored of this site. At first I just wanted to build a bot, just for my amusement. But then I remembered that I had this really awesome imaginary friend when I was younger, expect to see her arrive once I get a firm understanding of the controls.

Now why would anyone in their right minds do that?

Seems quite sensible to me (but then I indexed the entire Newcomers forum, and that was pretty obsessive behaviour )

Actually you're over halfway, since you're about to come to a very large tract of deleted posts c.2120-2240 - apparently the smoking crater left by some kind of flamewar (prompting the only occasion of the Prof swearing that I can ever recall seeing here in #2248!)
Sounds like it must have been nearly as much fun as the 'Roxie' war of '06! (a few more deleted posts there too.)

I have a little obsessive behavior myself, once I start something I just have to complete it or I won't feel that sense of completeness. Although, I let some things slide like doing the dishes.

I haven't read somewhere that the professor limits the amount of bots you can create, but if it reaches up to 50 I think someone might raise an eyebrow.

A general question to everyone on the Forge, how many experimental bots have you created? I'm not talking about the bots that you showcase, but the ones you keep hidden away in a basement to try new things on.

This is a question for the varsities,
is there a way to write an AI script where your bot can detect the user's relationship with another bot? [if you take a glance at the two bots I'm constructing, you could kinda see where I'm going with this] I am writing the scripts for it off line, I carry around notebook and I jot down lines whenever one comes to mind.

I had writers block while constructing Dwile, so I'm putting him on hiatus for now. Also checked the inport/export for Fantôme de Lune, and with such a complicated name I was expecting that the Forge might have a problem with it, but it was fine. I guess what happened the first time was a uber rare bug. =p

I doubt it. Given you'd be very unlikely to actively develop that many, most would be orphan bots that wouldn't chat much and would eventually be culled.
And if you did actively develop that many, well, good luck to you!

I was about to say "none", but I guess Brother Ignatius counts as experimental. He's not hidden though.

I'm afraid not. You'd have to hard code such information in the keyphrases (so probably only a small selection would be practical.)

Excellent practice. I find most inspiration comes when I'm away from the computer.

The Edit function stays active forever, but you need to remember/figure out what the PostID number was once the link disappears (if only by posting a blank post, copying the edit link, deleting the blank post, and then editing the link by subtracting 1 from PostID, and opening it in a new window - assuming noone else posted in the meantime.) The PostID number is a global value, not the message number shown in each forum.
