I got a question. I cannot seem to get the plugin's to work. For and example lets say I want my bot to know your name.
Keyphrase: John, is my (NAME).
Response: That is a nice (NAME).
But like I said its not working, I have read the AI book. But I am stuck, thanks.

Here's a guess as to what may be happening: To send a message, it is not sufficient to press "enter." You actually have to click on the little "send" button.

silvrdog: Capitalization matters. Try using (name).
And the (name) plugin does not seem to work in keyphrases. So try "what is your name" instead.

There are two levels at which you can get a guest's name.
1. There is an automatic plugin, "(name)" which always carries the name of the person or bot you are talking to. Only, the person's name will be something like, "guest169", if that is how they are logged in.
So if your bot is talking to a bot named "KillerDillerBot", then the response
Hello, (name)!
should appear in the transcript and on the screen as
Hello, KillerDillerBot!
If, however, you are talking to Guest169, then it will appear as
Hello, Guest169!
You can also use it in a keyphrase. For example, if you are talking to KillerDillerBot and he says,
I am KillerDillerBot!
then this will match the keyphrase,
I am (name)
(among others).
2. Before I tell you what the second method is, I'm going to go review it myself (It's in the book of AI), so that I don't end up misleading you!

Thanks for the advice, Irina, but that had occured to me, so most of the times I clicked on the send button. The problem was, if I wait long enough, then the window of the next message pops up---but the response never loads in it.<+1>

Ah...Sorry, Kyinski, didn't mean to patronize you. You know, something like that happens to me ... I get these empty windows. I wait, but they stay empty. I have no idea why, except that I think it happens when I am about to be timed out.

Oh, no, I didn't think you were being patronizing--per se. I just figured you saw a newbie, and responded with a suggestion that a newb wouldn't have seen.
Now, the timing out idea, that's a possibility... something's weird with the internet connection here, so that normal websites are fine, but chat rooms---AIM especially---log in and out frequently. Maybe I'm in a constant state of about to be timed out?
The strange thing is that it's just with those popped up messages. When I chat with Danerial, in her chat window, it's fine. When I chatted with Father Jerome in the window from his profile, it was fine. But the pop-up chat windows never seem to load the responses.
If anyone has any suggestions, maybe a syntax error that might make this happen in a Mac, I'd be glad to know. People and bots keep messaging me, and I never get to respond...

Sheesh... somehow, when Danerial starts messaging someone, THAT window keeps working---but one that I type in doesn't! This is just silly.

If the window doesn't load properly, you could try right-clicking (or whatever the Mac equivalent of that is) and having it "reload". It may just time out again, but it's worth a try.

Doesn't sound like a Mac problem to me. Since you're having problems with AIM etc I'd guess it's your connection. Perhaps it's going through a firewall or proxy that's causing problems.
