The results are all in and the winner of the 2012 Chatterbox Challenge goes to:
1st Place - Bildgesmythe by Patti Roberts.
2nd Place - Mitsuku by Steve Worswick.
3rd Place - Izar by Brian Rigsby.
In addition "Best New Bot" goes to Susan by Vittorio Rossi.
Congratulations to all the winners and all who participated. It was an extremely close contest and all three of the above bots could make a strong case for taking home the first prize. However, all three judges have submitted their scores and they are as followed:
1) Bildgesmythe - 78
2) Mitsuku - 73
3) Izar - 72
4) Vira - 60
5) Denise - 55
6) The Professor - 54
7) Louise Cypher - 53
8) Alice - 51
9) Susan - 46
10) Pixel - 44
11) Cronus - 42
12) Brainy - 23
13) Cyber Ty - 20

Just got this email. So very sad
I have decided after 12 years to end the CBC. I think the contest has become a bit stale and needs a new life and a new direction. I'm hoping another contest will appear and perhaps take it's place. I do think it's been a good alternative to the Loebner Contest allowing virtually anyone to enter with minimal entry restrictions.
If any individual or group has an interest in starting a new contest Peter Cole, the sponsor of the 2011 and 2012 CBC, maybe interested in being the sponsor.
Thanks for all the support over the years.

Calling all botmasters!
Sadly, the Chatterbox Challenge is no longer with us and the conditions for entering the Loebner Prize are prohibitive to most botmasters (especially to those outside the USA). This has left no way for most people with a chatbot to compare its performance against others.
To remedy this, I would like to announce the first in a series of Chatbot Battles, in which each entrant goes head to head with opponents in a league table/knockout format similar to the soccer World Cup. The main difference between this and other contests held in the past is that each entrant is judged on both question and answering abilities and also on how well they can carry out a normal conversation. Also, the bots do not have to pretend they are human to score extra marks. All chatbots are welcome to enter, whether they be web-based, downloadable, chatroom based or even Android apps.
Unfortunately, I do not have a sponsor and so the contest is currently just for bragging rights and kudos, although I may give some small prizes like T-shirts, mousemats and mugs away to the winners. If you would like to sponsor the competition, please contact me.
The closing date for entries is 1st June 2012 and the battles will start shortly afterwards.

Don't forget it's the last day to enter today. We have 35 bots so far taking part but there's still room for more if you wish to make a last minute entry. Remember, each botmaster can enter up to 3 bots.

Hello,
I wanted to post about the International Chatbot Contest that sounds pretty interesting.
http://contest.atwebpages.com/
Prize Money - The prize money is set up in a way to encourage participation and for fellow botmasters to encourage other botmasters to enter. The more people that enter the more you have to win. For every bot that enters the contest will award $100 in prize money up to $5000.
For example:
10 people - $1000
25 people - $2500
37 people - $3700
50 or more - $5000
It would be nice to have the opportunity to compete for $5000. So please sign up. It's free to enter so you have nothing to lose.
