Bot Contest

Last year, you could read transcripts from all the bots in the contest before voting, it made it so much easier to vote. I can´t find any... Am I looking at the wrong places? Or do I have to talk to all of them myself?

*sigh* So many people, so few votes.....

Its okay though. All those people don't know what they are missing. Those poor poor fools.

Okay... I just chatted with motbot. I have no idea why anyone would vote for it. Boring interface, boring responses. No content whatsoever.

It's usually an indicator of how popular a kid is at school. Once he's got all his friends to vote for him, I expect it will stall.

I tried accessing Aries from the chatterboxchallenge site and it just sat there.. no wonder people are complaining about him taking too long to respond and then leaving...

I wouldn't think that any ~popular~ kids would be caught among the AI community, or even in a bot contest. I think bot hits are related to the following factors:

1) how close the bot is to the top (name starts with 'A'). Some visitors just pick the first bot off the list, or dont bother scrolling down the whole list.

2) how catchy the bot name is. You will notice as the voteing results list goes down, the names become either more plain, or more strange, both of which would be passed on by the casual visitor. People judge books by their covers.

3) General popularity of a bot. Bots like HAL and ALICE are well known around the AI community, and are seen by people who even skim the surface of the bot/nlp software world.

4) What psimagus says is true, but i dont think it would be in a leedsish school environment. If someone has 6 siblings and 8 friends who all vote, theres a significant percentage raise there.

5) and finally, how well the bot performs, which ultimately pursuades the vote.

<+1>Hi everyone! Motbot is the most crappiest bot I came across. The whole voting seems fake to me, since it doesn't matter who is the best bot, it matters who knows the most people!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks like nobody remembers me from last year. I worked at Orchid every day. I chatted with Botmasters, but except for 2 or 3 nobody seems to remember about me anymore.

Motbot scored pretty high in last year's contest, too. As I said back then: who cares about 'most popular'? Most of the PF-bots participating in the CBC are marvellous. No matter how many votes they get.
