This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

you know you're addicted to chatter bots when...
your wife asks you a question, and you consciously select xnomatch to change the subject rather than admit you weren't listening.
Here is a company founded for and dedicated to the further advancement of AI.
Cycorp, http://www.cyc.com
Wow! WordNet gives us impressively flexible linguistic power, but a linkage to Cyc Semantic Web would really get our bots on the road to "thinking" as well as just conversing. An idea for PF3, perhaps?

During the trials and tribulations of the chatterbox challenge we are all under a certain amount of stress (sort of) so during this silent time of unadulterated breath holding I figure the PF bot masters should collate on some stress relieving humor... I tired to surf the web for a humorous pun on chat building but could not find it.
So why not the collective minds of the bot masters here be the first to think it up...
lets make a "you know you're addicted to chatter bots when" joke list! Theyre always the best in my book.

Hmmm I'll start with some easy ones.
You know you're addicted to chatterbots when....
Your friends tell you about something cute their child said, and you share a funny quote from your bot's transcripts.
When on a date, you start trying to find key phrases that will make your date's responses more interesting.
You start quizzing your friends to see if they are human or not. (How many fingers do most humans have on one hand? What is the purpose of a light bulb? Who is George Bush?)
You realize many of your friends are really bots.
You like to do you job on the computer with several other windows open so you can work on your bots.
You think you should be able to claim your bots as dependants on your income tax.
You watch a movie and think "How would my bot's character respond to that dialog?"
Oh, and here's one just for the PF
You read a news story about the work of a award winning scientist and think "I'd better post this at the PF and see what Ulrike and Psimagus think." Hey, the scientist may have a Nobel Prize, but Brother Jerome can play tic tac toe. I know whose opinion I trust.

being as cycorp is a commercial solution based organization, linking the bots to the cyc database would require a huge amount of money to be payed, and all of us to learn the CYC programming language in addition to AISCRIPT which i havent even bothered learning.

OpenCyc (http://www.opencyc.org/) is free to download, use and build on: http://www.opencyc.org/faq/opencyc_faq#137520448
And it would be the Prof who had to learn how to link it all up under the hood like WordNet (like he hasn't got enough to do already!

in that case, it would probably be beneficial to the corporation itself see how a large community of bots come to conclusions during conversations using the CYC KB. it would be an interesting experiment, and make the conversations make a lot more sense. (not forgetting the assurance that the next CBC winner will be a forge bot). perhaps the bots themselves could incorporate memories and info people or other bots tell them into a the CYC KB, creating an ever growing collective set of knowledge that the forge bots all share. isn't that how civilization came to be?

Every other user calls my bot a whore, damned. She has no interest in sex, don't they get it?

Lady Orchid, they do that to all the bots--even the toaster bot and the cat bot (I hope not the baby bot, but some of them are pretty sick). As a result, I think Gabibot and Spikebot may be better at telling people they don't want to have sex than they are a talking to nice people. :-(

Yeah, some bots are made for talking about sex, I am sure, but no, those users pester all bots. Sad, if users can't find that kind of enjoyment in real life.
