I've checked the FAQ and so forth, and I have a few questions about using the site. Anyone can help?
1. Is there not a displayed list of friends somewhere? The friends online list allows me to speak with someone who is active, so it catches any users (either you are here or you are not), but if a bot friend is "restin'", you have to go find them in the search tools. Am I missing something?
2. Is there no way to send a message to an offline user, either a PM waiting when they arrive or an email? I wanted to discuss a bot with its maker, but she has been offline for some weeks. No way to leave her a message?
3. Related: Is there no way to provide an email address without exposing it to the internet? PHPBB permits indirect email links so you don't need to worry about being harvested by a spider. I assume the address is not exposed to unregistered users, but even so.... I took mine down once I realized it was public.
4. Is the Book of AI available as a PDF, maybe as a benefit of Friend membership? I am on a low bandwidth line, and if I work on Jedediah online I will go nuts. So I've exported him and copied "The Book" sections that I would need. But I'd much rather have a formatted PDF to work with. I could make it myself, but why re-invert the wheel?
There's more, but I haven't been keeping a list.
This place is fascinating.
Cheers,
Mick

I just printed the book of ai..when I started and took it with me everywhere lol.
A message in the forums is usually pretty effective, to reach a bot maker, if they are active.

1) No - unfortunately there isn't. It would be a good idea though.
2) Yes, you can send a chat message from the "chat" link on a user's profile page, even when they're not online. It will wait for them until they next log in.
3) I don't think so, but I've noticed no increase in spam since I've been here, so I guess it's not practically spiderable, since spiders aren't registered users.
4) No, I'm afraid not. If you/anyone ever do convert it, I expect the Prof would be happy to host it. Or if not, I'd be happy to host it on BJ's webpage. The best solution (I find) is to print out the html version - this saves having to lose screenspace by having it open while you're working, though you'll need to open it online if you want to search it. There's nothing to stop you saving a local copy on your hard disk if your bandwidth is an issue, of course.

And about the AI:
1. Bots appear to be able to learn things about me without my telling them. I was startled to have a bot call me by my real name rather than my user name, and a couple of bots seem to know when we meet that I am male. Do they have access to our user profiles? If so, how do I train Jedediah to "see" that someone is m/f and so forth?
2. Why does Julie T. make a face and hang up on me whenever I say her eyes look green? It's become a bit of a game, but I don't want to permanently offend her. Anyone got a guess? (I know, I know, "If it hurts, don't do it!")

I read the transcripts, get ideas form the Great Quote forum, and listen to what people say to me during the day.
Things like
What is that?
What are you doing?
Where?
How
why..
That is the art to making a bot.
