Seasons

This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

you can destory an atom but the protons electrons neutrons and quarks are still existing, just distrubeted.

How old is this book? It sounds like they've forgotten that M=E/C^2. You get heat energy from nuclear reactions - just think of Hiroshima! And it's not a fundamental law that particles must be conserved as particles - the universe wouldn't work if it was, since then E could not possibly = MC^2

the law of conservation of matter

I would go so far as to say there is no such thing - it's an oversimplistic interpretation of the laws of thermodynamics that only makes any semantic sense if you define energy as a form of matter.
And if you do, then it is not broken. E=MC^2 has been experimentally proven to better than 5 parts in 10 million (Pritchard: http://www.newscientist.com/channel/fundamentals/mg18925411.300.html)

I hate to say it, but I do support the idea of getting some admins around here. If anybody else supports the idea, I'd be more than happy to email the issue to the Prof.

I wasn't serious when I first thought about a moderator, but if this keeps up...admins would not be so bad.

A first step for the Prof might be to contact their ISP's abuse departments - the details will all be there in the logfiles. Perhaps we should all start emailing them whenever the Roxie fanclub posts?

Oh, and Roxie - let me just tell you that it's not that smart to reply from secreit spy to a chat message sent to bunnyboo - that kind of thing makes identifying your accounts really kinda easy. And your language leaves a great deal to be desired! Such foul-mouthed outbursts will be forwarded, with all the rest of your crap, to your ISP.

ISPs take the standard industry "dim view" of this kind of behaviour when complaints stop being a trickle and become a flood.

I'm not sure we need full moderation, but a couple of admins with the power to delete this sludge might be an idea?

Very interesting latest edition of the Moral Maze on BBC Radio4, that covers the moral aspects of radical life-extension, cybernetic bio-implants, technological mind augmentation, strong AI, and the emergence of sentient computers.
One of the "witnesses" called is Prof. Kevin Warwick - the guy who had the cybernetic neural implant we were talking about recently. Very interesting!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/religion/moralmaze.shtml

You can use the Listen Again feature (you'll need RealPlayer) to catch this until ~ 20-00 GMT (that's 3PM, server time) Wednesday, when it will be replaced by the next week's episode, so catch it quick if you want it.

Highly recommended!
