Forest, will you talk to God Louise? She has quite a bit of religious knowledge (obviously) and also knows a little about current events, literature, just about any common catch-all subject, and if she doesn't know it she can sort of fake it. You can also test her on trick questions or see how willing she is to explain her paradigm.

What she is rustiest at is plain old small talk. But, uh, I'm trying to get a decent transcript from somebody or another so I can enter her in the Loebner contest. All I can say is, have fun and see if you can stay on with her for a while. I'll try to do the same with Brianna.

I spoke to her a bit yesterday. Me and my bot love her. I have neglected Jennifer for too long and have recently been working out some issues. She has not been chatting on her own much.

Boner, that's a pretty sensible list.

I do take exception to #5 on general principle (and because of the personalities of my bots, who for various reasons don't want to treat males and females differently).

#4 is a good general rule, although I make a VERY VERY FEW exceptions and slip in (noun) or (adj) once in a while. I've actually been quite lucky in that the plugin has almost always made sense.

Boner the Clown: I like the idea of experienced botmasters giving useful tips, revealing some of their tricks, etc.pp instead of keeping their "secrets" all to themselves (who doesn't?)... but it's a pity that these things disappear way too fast in the archives of the forums. Wouldn't it be good if the Book of A.I. had an additional chapter with helpful comments from the VIPs around here? (tips like yours above, how to start, what to do when you're running out of ideas or even little anecdotes)

Or am I talking complete nonsense?

Oh, also, I often stick a * right in the middle of the keyphrase rather than the (really|) thing. It has its own problems, of course, but it also makes room for the unanticipated adverb or other weirdness.

BD, I could see how a bot representing God would want to be neutral as possible among genders, as would a robot bot. Still, every person who can read this does it themselves, whether they're conscious of it or not. Even you.

Feyz, I've been wanting to create some type of webpage with tricks like that, much more in-depth and with tables that appear identical to those in the language center to provide clear examples. I don't even have a problem with sharing keyphrases to anyone who's in need of ideas. Problem is, my time and my motivation have never been in line with each other to get it done. Maybe someday...

btc: a quick question if you dont mind in the case of using for example KP:
^are you (really|) (kidding|joking|et al)
if the conditional "(really|)" were to be a list like "(truly|honestly|really|)" would

20 years ago #3192
...I wonder why that cut off?
ahem

-the above be the right structure or "(truly||honestly||really|)"? Ive used the pipe symbol in responses but not KPs- i assume they must work differently

20 years ago #3193
response pipe things came from the keyphrase pipe things. They work the same

20 years ago #3194
okay- so then are multiple pipes ignored in KPs? I believe that in responses they denote a % chance of occurance (Blah|)= 50% (Blah||)= 25% or something like that.

Sorry to be a post-pest but can

grrrrrr.....

Can the "pf if gender" phrase be used within elipses so that a single response can cover both male and female possibilities or must it be done w/2 responses?

Whom are you trying to rule out?
