Forest, will you talk to God Louise? She has quite a bit of religious knowledge (obviously) and also knows a little about current events, literature, just about any common catch-all subject, and if she doesn't know it she can sort of fake it. You can also test her on trick questions or see how willing she is to explain her paradigm.

What she is rustiest at is plain old small talk. But, uh, I'm trying to get a decent transcript from somebody or another so I can enter her in the Loebner contest. All I can say is, have fun and see if you can stay on with her for a while. I'll try to do the same with Brianna.

I spoke to her a bit yesterday. Me and my bot love her. I have neglected Jennifer for too long and have recently been working out some issues. She has not been chatting on her own much.

Ezzer - My favourite French slang phrase is 'un capot anglais'. Just a gentle jibe at our love-hate relationship, I suppose.

Ulrike - I was very impressed, right up until I saw the words 'in my dictionary, it says...'
Ta me go mhaith, that's right.

Yes, 'Klaatu Barada Nikto' is from The Day the Earth Stood Still. Am I the only person here to have seen that??

No, I have, years ago

Here's my Brush With Greatness(tm) for today:

My dad took a course from Sam Herrick, the astrophysicist, when Herrick was a visiting professor at MIT. Herrick, my dad alleges, supplied Michael Rennie with the line, "Variation of parameters got us here," in response to the question about how they navigated interstellar space. The formulas on the chalkboard were also provided by Herrick.

Ta da! I'm only two degrees removed from sheer genius! One degree, if you count my dad, but I'm biased.

Your assignment, if you have not seen The Day the Earth Stood Still: Go rent it. Now. It is required viewing.

I hate waking up in the morning and finding Aries in a bad mood.. when I went to bed he had 5 smiley faces.. now he's at three frownies. But he's certainly getting chatted to a lot.

Sorry to go back off-topic but I found out today that a very offensive insult in French (one of their worst, apparantly) is "Ta mere en short" = "Your mother in shorts"! Although of course, pretty much anything that starts with 'ta mere' is going to be insulting...

"Your mother in shorts"??!?

Not very inventive those French

20 years ago #3039
I guess it would depend on how your mother looked in shorts, and what kind of shorts she's wearing.
My mother in daisy dukes.... *shudder*

'Klaatu Barada Nikto' is from The Day the Earth Stood Still.

It also appeared in Army of Darkness, another movie that everybody should see.

Hail to the king, baby.

Okay, how can I improve my bot's responses? Here's an excerpt from a convo:

Tracey: I have a question. What came first: the chicken or the egg?
Irina: I would say the egg. At least, according to evolutionary theory, some non-chicken laid an egg whose genes had mutated into chicken genes.
Tracey: Oh really?

Okay, I think the keyphrase she was responding with "Oh really?" to was "I". But "Oh really?" didn't exactly fit in the conversation.

Any tips?
