Here I'll be posting information on various Bot contests that challenge and test a Bot's AI and realism. Feel free to post comments and updates on contests, as well as announcements for new contests.

Phew! I bet that's a relief

Now, back up your bots without delay to removable media!

Wendell: Are you going to be needing judges, as with the previous years?

it happened again. My computer seems completely dead, and is not responding to anything, not even removal of drive and ram. I think there is a small battery that saves BIOS settings, but I can't get to it on my laptop because I don't have a star shaped screwdriver. Since my computer is the only one in the house that runs VB, my project is ruined unless another miracle happens.

bummer
if there's another computer in the house, you could try swapping hard drives?

And then backing up VB as well as your bots might be a good idea. As well as investing in a torx driver set. In the meantime, you could probably get the battery out by filing a slot across the torx bolt heads, and using a flat screwdriver.

No, it's Verbots show now. They will be conducting the contest.

Has anyone else looked at the Verbots or actually tried building a bot with that? Look semi-interesting...

I've been playing with the free version for a couple of hours, and it does look pretty cool. Cool enough to make the registered version (considerable extra functionality) frankly a bargain for the $10 it costs!

XML will never replace the Forge for me though - not without WordNet parsing and the inter-bot chat that gives such a sense of community here.
I wonder... it oughtn't to be too difficult to parse a Forge bot's export file to vkb-flavoured xml (it's all just text formatting after all - the profiles open up just fine in notepad,) and have a neat interface for offline access to your PF bot to talk to you.
It would be interesting to see how bots' personalities would change without the rank, emotion, AIScript etc. though (what support there is for the such features in such XML/AIML dialects is not equivalently handled I think) - it's hard to get a feeling for how much difference this would make...

Colonel720 - you're the programmer here, whaddya reckon - feasible?

I thought it was pretty interesting myself, though I still prefer the simplicity and community of PF. Maybe I'll play with it some more on a rainy day.

What I'd really like to make would be an IRC chatterbot, but I just don't have the skills to make one that's good.
