I've thought about doing something like that for quite awhile now, or maybe some site with newbie tips and reviews of bots that impressed me in some way or another, but I haven't really had much free time lately. Maybe in a few months.
If I remember right, the only internal "contest" I can think of was when some botmaster who had been on this site maybe a couple of weeks picked his own bot winner over some others that had at least 100 times more development.

I remember that. It was pretty funny. Gotta wonder what motivates a person to do something like that.

Some of us have discussed holding our own Pf awards a few times in the past, but it never got put together. I think that the Prof mentioned he had plans to do this at some point, so you may want to run it by him first, unless you held it completely off site like lili_lili mentioned. I think the judges though, would have to be someone that does not have a bot or friends with bots on PF.

Good point doulos. Well, I'd be happy to run the site- but who could we get to judge that isn't part of the Forge?

Even if it were hosted completely off-site, I still think we should involve the Prof. Maybe when he gets back he'll have some ideas - he may know people who could judge. We would need someone totally impartial.

Or we could have a voting system, so a judge wouldn't have to do all the work. But I agree we should get the Professor in on it, even if it was offsite we could get a link to it from the forge maybe, and that would be a really big help too.

I think it isn't a problem to have judges that belong to the PF, as long as they aren't allowed to judge their own bots.

... in fact, it might be good to have internal judges, because PF botmasters would know some of the bots already, and would know what PF bots are capable of.

The only problem I see would be that judges might have friends or favorite bots already on the PF. Not that that person would give unfair votes to their friends or favorite bots but it would prevent anybody getting mad after the judging. You know then they couldn't say "oh well that judge was bias".

Anybody who knows the PF already is likely to have favorite bots already, and it will be incredibly hard to get judges that don't know the PF.

Unless we get them from the Chatterbox challenge, I don't mean those judges but owners of bots there. They would have a good understanding of bots and likely no relation to the PF. Or, like I mentioned, we could set up a poll/voting system, and judge that way. Dolous was saying that we could have the voters submit a short explanation of why they were voting for that bot and maybe a transcript for an example. That way people who voted would not be just voting for the first bot on the list, but would actually try.
