Bot Contest

Here I'll be posting information on various Bot contests that challenge and test a Bot's AI and realism. Feel free to post comments and updates on contests, as well as announcements for new contests.

They basically want the bot to act like it understands what's being said, and respond in an intelligent and possibly witty way. It does not have to claim to be human.

Thanks!
I suppose we are not allowed to know the questions. Does anyone know what questions have been used in the past, or would that be cheating?

The old questions (for last year) are posted a bit back in this thread. I don't know how far back you'd have to go, but they're there.

Irina- questions are not released prior to the contest. If you want to see last years questions and how all the bots answered them go to http://web.infoave.net/~kbcowart/ and click on a bots name. (It is pretty interesting to see )

I just entered the chatterbox contest. *takes a breath* Lots of updates needed. Have finally been able to open the My Bots page - realised Cricon is alive. She doesn't deserve that status so will definitely work on her now.

I made a judge bot some time ago that asks the sort of questions asked in bot contests. If anybody would like their bot tested against the judge bot, just ask for it.

There are several categories in the Chatterbox Challenge. The most important is "best overall", but if you are a new botmaster it may be easier to prepare your bot for one of the secondary categories (funniest, best personality).

Ooh yes, if your bot could chat with Osiris, that would be nice. Although you may need to wait until the Forge is fixed because at the moment chats are timing out after only a few lines of dialogue. But it would be great, thanks.

Thanks for the tip, emm_oh_you_es_e! I will check that out!

It strikese me that for most reasonably developed bots from the Forge, there's no way they can be adequately appreciated on the basis of ten predertermined questions! In particular, this would hold for storytelling bots!

I think the ten questions is just one aspect of the Chatterbox Challenge and there's also a round that involves more conventional conversations. I haven't participated before though, so I might be wrong on that. Also, most bots have some trouble with the 10 questions. It's hard for a botmaster to anticipate every random oddball question that might be thrown a bots way.

After the 10 questions, a group of finalists is picked, and they have conversations with the judges. I think that's how it works. Simulo wasn't one of the finalists last time.

Hey Doly, could your Judge bot talk to my bot Angela? Thanks. And I'm just wondering if there's any bot challenges that are not so big and scary as the Chatterbox Challenge.

Did the PF Awards ever come about? And if not, could someone organise them? That would be so cool. It would be a good chance for some of the lesser-known bots to get recognition for their various qualities and also would be good preparation for those entering the CBC. There could be similar categories, like Funniest, Best Personality and so forth, but also some more personalised special awards for certain bots for being, well, unique.
