Some guest just asked GL 10 questions. I don't know whether it was a judge; they may have been from a previous contest.

Some guest asked Simulo 13 questions earlier today -- really short, pointless questions, with no follow-ups or conversation. Stuff like "What color is the sky?" and "How do you eat?"

Same here. I may not have counted right, as there was a little conversation mixed in. Man, she BOMBED.

mybot "Should I really give something a try before making a rule against it?"
My bot gave this response at 1:58 server time on Saturday Mar 20. It has no correlation to anything in the conversation, and does not mach anything I've programmed. Could two responses have gotten mixed up somehow and sent to the wrong 'bots chatting' window?

It would be nice on the Chatterbox Challenge site if there was a "chat" button where the user would just chat with a random bot, maybe a bot they would not normally try.

My bot was marginally passable, but couldn't get specific in any of the questions. She fails miserably as a "general knowledge" bot. There was one funny answer though:
Guest: When was Y2k?
Little Mu: Well if you missed it, I'm sorry... I don't think it's going to happen again any time soon.

Hmmm. If those are indeed Challenge questions, I think the contest has very quesionable validity. Knowledge of common facts is not nearly as interesting as conversation simulation.

Obviously you are not familiar with the contest to make such a statement. The questions are just that. This is not a conversation nor was it intended to be so. The questions are ask to some degree within the framework of a conversation to allow bots that might answer the question in a two part fashion.
This is ONLY 1 category. Conversational ability is and will remain the most important part of this contest.
It is impossible for a bot to answer some of these off the wall type questions but how the bot handles those questions is definitely a key factor in how good the bot is. For example NO bot answered the y2k question but as Skysaw points out Little Mu response was classic. A very creative and funny response.
