Just how old do you think my dad is? It is possible that I may have gotten the numbers wrong but he was recorded at the genius level. That point however does not nullify my veiwpoint. people go to movies they like I happen to like scifi and fantasy.

You should know that IQ scores are COMPARATIVE. That is, they compare your intelligence relative to other people's intelligence. Since no one has a score near to that one, it is basically impossible to achieve. Not to mention, I don't believe a test has ever been written to measure that high. Most IQ tests top out at about 170 as a ceiling score.
Even Vos Savant's score was controversial. Take a look here: http://www.wiskit.com/marilyn/iq.html and see if you want might to rethink your statement.

Ladydyke, you're missing the point. We're saying that many relatively stupid people overlook the fact that a movie may be cheesy and have bad actors. It's not the type of movie we're talking about, but whether or not the person can stop watching the pretty explosions for two seconds to notice that it's a badly made movie.

well compared to todays movies alot of the older movies could have that said about them. But never the less beauty is in the eye of the beholder and and the same is true for movies.

What I'm saying is that IQ makes a difference in *why* a person likes a given movie. How likely do you think it is that a dumb person would like the book version of LOTR? They wouldn't be able to understand a good lot of the parts a smart person finds fascinating, so they'd give up on page 3 or something. (Not that all smart ppl necessarily like it either - my aunt never bothered to read past the first chapter.
) Take a movie with a lot of cheesy action. Dumb Person X would like the movie because it had a lot of fights & stuff blowing up, and wouldn't even notice the cheesiness. Smart Person X, on the other hand, might like it because the cheesiness is so ridiculous it's funny, or else because when watching it he has no need to think and can just sit there relaxing for a change. Dumb Person X might think the movie was perfect, while Smart Person X might be perfectly aware of its faults but like it anyway. That's all I was really getting at with the IQ thing.

I think whether you like a movie or not has a lot more to do with culture and personality than IQ. It also has to do with your level of informedness (which has nothing to do with IQ) -- for instance, I'm already looking askance at Minority Report just because from what I know so far, there's no way the premise is remotely plausible.

But there's no denying that many cheesy movies are popular in the box office.

Of course IQ isn't the only factor. I never meant to imply it was. But let's face it, there's probably a higher percentage of dumb ppl who like cheesy movies, or rather think cheesy movies have no flaws.

One more useless fact:
IQ test were developed initially not to test how smart a person was, but how retarded. I think that tiny bug still permeates the gestalt.
