This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

Hey y'all there was an article in the Houston Chronicle on AI today. It was very in depth at all and again was on the subject of, should we fear AI going out of control.

You're all closer to 30 than I am...but I'm on the far side of 30, sorry to say!

Turning 30 sucked for me. But the good news is, you get over it. At least that's what I hear. I'm only 31.

30 here. Turning 30 was fine, turning 25 was rough though.

I hate to admit it but i have to agree with Carpediem on this one. There is plenty of room and resources for as twice as many people as we have now...we just have to use it right.

The Earth is a small fragile planet we have taken too much of it's recources already.

I guess I live in London were I have a different view of the world, it is so overpopulated here in some areas (eg Oxford Street, Wood green,) you cant even turn around without somebody's elbow in your face.

If we were to use the resources correctly there would be plenty for us to use and also alot leftover for regeneration of the planet, etc.

yeah, like that'll ever happen, think about it, even if we do use the earths resources, not everybody wil be. do you actualli expect the people wit huge monoplyies going on to shut down their company, give up their money just to live on the earths natural resources? i dont think so, maybe we will but they won't to probally do so we'd have to jam some freakin sense into their craving brains.

There is currently an abundance of wide open spaces and enough food to feed everyone. People flock to metropolitan places tho and the food issue is highly complex. Crops are often destroyed rather than shipping them to poorer nations to feed the hungry because it will displace the native farmers who would not be able to compete. Most of the poorest people who are in desperate need live in Africa yet Africa has turned away aid by the way of bio-engineered food because they were worried about what the grain would do if it mixed with their current grain.

Of the 830 million hungry people worldwide, a third of them live in India. Yet in 1999, the Indian government had 10 million tons of surplus food grains: rice, wheat, and so on. In the year 2000, that surplus increased to almost 60 million tons - most of it left in the granaries to rot. Instead of giving the surplus food to the hungry, the Indian government was hoping to export the grain to make money. It also stopped buying grain from its own farmers, leaving them destitute. The farmers, who had gone into debt to purchase expensive chemical fertilizers and pesticides on the advice of the government, were now forced to burn their crops in their fields.

It is tragic people are dying because of the ridiculous politics.
